love is love. it doesn't matter your sexual orientation, color, ethnicity, or where you come from. love is a rare and unexplainable thing that two people share. just because it isn't 'politically correct' or 'god' says it's a sin, doesn't mean it's not there.

I agree that there can be love there, however, what can be produced of that love??? No child can be produced, and in many cases, both come out of that relationship much worse than before.

If gay marriage is supposed to be accepted, then why we were created(by God) to only reproduce with a member of the opposite sex??

seeing as how "god" can not be scientifically proved, who's to say "he" made anything? what about all the irresponsible heterosexuals who get pregnant and gave their baby up for adoption? gay couples are able to welcome that child into a loving home. just because they can't personally reproduce together doesn't mean they can't be fit parents and raise a happy family.

Con

I am not saying that they cannot be fit parents; What I am saying is that while they could they get exposed to things that are not right. If a gay male couple adopt a little girl what is to prevent him from having sex with her b/c up till now, no one has said anything of his life.

A gay couple could take of a child in turns of making sure that they are fed and clothed, but in terms of the heart, a child needs both a mom and a dad. A little girl needs a dad to show her what she needs to look for in her husband and she needs a mother to show her how to take care of a family and be faithful the husband. A young boy needs a mother to show him what to look for in a wife and a father to show him how to be a husband. They can't get that in a gay couple.

that's what's wrong with our world. it doesn't take a mom and a dad to raise a child right. it takes good parents. children have to find themselves for themselves, not for their parents. it should matter if you have two dads, two moms, or one of each. as long as the parents love their children and let them grow into what they want to be, everything will turn out okay.
HatedvsLoved

Con

You are right in some ways, wrong in others. Children do need to find themselves but they do need the help from a mom and a dad. Everything will not turn out alright. Look at the world. Everything will not turn out all right b/c we want it to, it will turn out right if we make sure of it. Have you ever taken a look at children who had parents who divorced and then got married again??? They have 2 moms and 2 dads and in many cases(not all) they end up worse than kids with one mom and one dad. Moms and dads are different, in the way they raise kids to the way that they love them. You need both for a healthy family.

I am against marriage. It is unethical, not moral, and there is no sense in it whatsoever.

"True, civil unions could present the same or similar benefits to gay couples, but why must we create a different category for the gay couples?" could be rephrased to "Why must we alter the definition of marriage ti include gay couples?" I agrreed with most of your statement, Chuckles, but why insist on changing the meaning and definition of marriage and just settle for "civil union?'

1st-Simply because a couple cannot reproduce successfully does not mean they should not get the same set of rights as any other couple. Heterosexual couples sometimes cannot reproduce, for a number of reasons. Homosexuals cannot reproduce. There should not be a different set of rights.
2nd-What threat do gay marriages present to straight couples?
3rd-Simply because the way it has been for years is man and woman, does not mean that it must stay that way,and only that way, indefinitely.
4th-The argument posing the possibility of child molestation by a gay couple is prejudiced. A straight couple could just as easily molest a small child, gay or straight doesn't increase or decrease the possibility.
5th-just as others said, the important things in a family is not what gender the parents are, but the morals and values taught by the parents.
6th- True, civil unions could present the same or similar benefits to gay couples, but why must we create a different category for the gay couples? To say that a couple cannot take the title of being "married" simply because they are gay and not straight is prejudiced and unjust.

1. I find it interesting that a main point of the argument against gay marriage is that a same sex couple cannot produce a child on their own.

Is this such a bad thing? There are countless children in need of adoption and our world population is soaring out of control.

2. I also find it interesting that you use an example of a gay male couple adopting a little girl and then having sex with her.

Let's make this clear: pedophiles are (statistically) primarily straight identified men. That's not to say that there are *no* gay identified pedophiles in the world, but it is more likely you will find abusers identifying as straight.

3. Lastly, you say: "A young boy needs a mother to show him what to look for in a wife and a father to show him how to be a husband. They can't get that in a gay couple."

I won't get into the whole psychology of childhood. But I will point out that you are assuming that the child is straight... which they may not be.

My first thought on this subject is: if two guys love each other why do they need to get married to each other to prove it?

Marriage is a promise between a MAN and a WOMAN before GOD. And since GOD says a man shall not lay with another man, the said homosexuals must not care about making their promise in front of GOD because they do not believe in Him or care to know Him.

So, why must they have a marriage? Make the promise to each other, but it should not be recognized in the same way a traditional marriage is recognized.

gay marriage is love between two poeple. not just a man and a woman. if they love each other than they should get married no matter the sexs involved. you do not need to produce children to be in love. if anything then you should adopt.

I meant to say I am against gay marriage. I actually didn't proofread the last argument before I submitted it. Sorry for that confusion, doubledownrob.

rkmcdaniel - Good point on stepping back and thinking before we act. I do think that is part of the problem with society.

Note to all - Thank you for your comments. I now know what I need to learn a little bit more on. I guess I wasn't as ready as I would like to admit.

The reason that so many couples get a divorce is because the sanctity of marriage has, unfortunately, been removed from those marriages. Marriage has become a quick fix for those who have sex out marriage and wind up pregnant. Back when marriage meant something, typically people would wait for 2-4 years before popping the question. Now, 2-4 months seems to sufice. Thats not to say that some of those marriages will work, but the vast majority don't. People don't really ask themselves if they really want to spend the rest of their life with this person. We should take a step back and think before we act.

"[W]hat can be produced of that love??? No child can be produced, and in many cases, both come out of that relationship much worse than before."

Is this to say that a married man and woman who cannot have children due to physical complications are not as valuable as a couple?

It just strikes me as odd that we fight to preserve the "sanctity" of marriage in a nation with a 50% divorce rate. Spousal abuse is common. Where is the sanctity in this?

Not that all gay couples would have good marriages, but i would rather see a happy gay couple than an abusive heterosexual couple.

If your marriage loses its value b/c two men can kiss and marry, then your relationship has deeper issues.

Lastly, I wish that all men wanted to be gay (except for me) because my value would increase on the hot lady market.
