i contend causes a race to the bottom, caused primarily by our unlimited, and for practical purposes, infinite supply of labor. which means people will always be willing to work for beans, cause our wealth to be spread so thin, people will be in poverty, and those regulations and protections that countries have will be let up to compete.
this is all if globalization is allowed. for details of my argument see here:

A few unstated assumptions in the argument:

1. You think of wealth as this fixed entity. But wealth is not just passed around, it is created.

2. That regulations somehow keeps this wealth intact. That may be true for some connected and privileged few, but overall it is the opposite. Regulations siphon off wealth from some and give it to others. It is a way for connected businesses to control market entry and to fix prices.

When people specialize in something and trade, it leads to the maximum output of goods. This is what is called Comparative Advantage by economists. I'll get into more detail about this in later rounds.

To think that by opening up trade all over the world is going to make us less wealthy, just use your same logic and work backwards. If trading with China is bad, why should we trade with Canada? Or why should Oklahoma trade with New York? Or why should Oklahoma City trade with Tulsa? Until you get to the point of why should I trade anyone? Why don't I make everything I need for myself? It's because if I focus on making one thing and everyone else on something else, we can make the maximum amount possible.

Also, you lump all of labor together. For some jobs that take virtually no skill, there are larger pools of labor to draw from. But not everyone can be an engineer because it takes some training. But as people over seas do these jobs for less, that means the prices of goods fall, which means even if you are making less at a job, you can still get more goods. The best pay check isn't the one with the most zeros behind it, but the one with the most purchasing power.

Also, in order for these people to have better paying jobs, you can focus on one of two things: supply or demand. To focus on supply would mean to eliminate some of them (i.e. murder). To focus on demand, you need to open up trade so more businesses will compete and have to offer better incentives for them to work there.

By restricting trade you are producing indirect results that end up hurting people.

So instead of globalization being a race to the bottom, it is a race to the top.

Increased global competition means firms have to be more innovative and productive, which leads to a greater abundance of goods and services. Increased trade means we are less likely to fight one another, which means less will be spent on warfare. As governments recover from the socialist ideas of the 20th century, countries will gravitate towards more free markets and private property, which leads to a diversification of ends being pursued. What intelligent design is to biologists, tariffs are to economists. Only special interest push those ideas, but their arguments don't stand.

So I like globalization because I like my Japanese digital camera, my sweatshirt manufactured in Mexico, my computer designed by Americans, and my gas from Nigeria. Odds are that if you are reading this on a computer, you have a standard of living unlike any generation in human history. That standard of living didn't come about because governments close off their countries; it is because we trade with one another.

Are you talking strictly economic globalization or political/governmental globalization as well?

Just a heads up darygirl4u2c... posting a wikipedia article as your arguments has two problems... 1). It may or may not be credible AND 2). It isn't your work. It is plagiarism and won't be accepted in a real debate.

Also, and this is a personal comment, your contentions are not outlines or particularly clear. The wording is odd, and the grammar is shady. I'm not sure if you quite understand what you are arguing. The game theory metaphor might help you a tad. That said, this debate just doesn't pique my interest enough for me to take it.
