Debate Round No. 1

Con

As a current student I believe that there is way to much homework. There are studies that have shown that homework only increases stress and is only another way for teachers to dock students grades. Last semester in math I had a C- just because I didn't do all of my homework because of all 10 of the extracurricular activities that I did. I believe that they shouldn't ban homework completely but reduce the amount that is given.

Thank you con for your argument. I will now post mine:

Contention 1: Homework helps the students learn the material at home

Homework helps students learn the material from school at home. It is useful in keeping them knowledgeable about what the have learned at school, so they can go to class the next day, knowing the material, and being prepared.

Contention 2: Homework is useful to help study

Homework helps give the students something to look over and study at home. It gives them notes to help them prepare for a test or quiz.

Contention 3: Homework is an good way for students to bring up poor grades

Homework is a really good way for students to bring up bad grades. Usually, homework is worth 10% of your grade. So, for example, if you get a 75% on all your classwork, tests and quizzes, if you do all your homework, and get a 100% in that category, then your grade instead will be an 85%.

Thank you.

I await my opponent's rebuttals.

I think less homework should be implemented but not no homework at all.

Reasons for voting decision: I am confused by Con. By reading Cons arguments, I can't tell whether he/she is completely against homework or not. He did not argue for the removal of homework. Con merely argued for limiting the burden of homework. Pro did a good job to support homework by providing the benefits of HW. There was no need for Pro to refute Con's arguments, because Con didn't even provided any reason to ban or remove HW completely. None of them cited any sources. Con forfeited. Thus, the conduct point goes to Pro.
