india is allegedly the world's largest democracy, with over 900 million ppl livin in an area less than 1 third the size of the US.but in reality, bcoz of the caste system-an elaborate form of discrimination- a substantial percentage of the population is de facto disenfranchised.Political instability and sectarian violence also continue to threaten the very core if the country. Is india a democracy or not??if not,wat exactly is it??

Democracy was supposed to bring freedom, somehow. It never did this, anywhere, really, since nowhere is the populace pro-freedom. Democracy failed us all, and India is no exception.

Your notion of the caste system supports my claim. The lower castes, the Untouchables, the main relevant factor remaining in the caste system- they are a minority. The fact that democracy has failed them, that they are disenfranchised, is intrinsic to the nature of democracy.

Prior to Indian democracy, it existed in relative civilization, under what was then the relatively civilized (if still flawed) British Empire. Since, it collapsed into socialism, a typical result of democracy. It has recovered somewhat, due to the forces of modern information industries managing to confuse the democratically elected regulatory structure- but when democracy recovers, all these gains will of course be lost again.

Oh and in case anyone's confused by the resolution... if the resolution is a question, I think it a fair deduction that "pro" means "Hell yeah" in response to the question, assuming the question is answerable with yes or no.
