Is world peace possible? A question which has plagued the minds of the world for decades. I believe that we can sustain world peace on a international level, not a domestic level. If we work together as nations and stop trying to get the title of most powerful nation in the world, yeah when it's possible. We have wonderful nations like the United Nations and NATO to help make this dream a reality. But it would very very very hard to have peace on a national level, because of human nature. But on an international level , we can because they are more than 1 person's mind and thoughts on a decision. What do you think? Is world peace possible?

I would like to thank my opponent for starting this debate. Good luck to both of us.

Since my opponent didn’t offered definitions, I’d do so. The only word needing definition, and which is the basis of this debate is, world peace.

World peace is more than just the absence of war, in fact, as according to Wikipedia, “World peace is an ideal of freedom, peace, and happiness among and within all nations and/or people. World peace is an idea of planetary non-violence by which nations willingly cooperate, either voluntarily or by virtue of a system of governance that prevents warfare.”

C1: Competition among nations

Perhaps if there’s anything that is preventing us humans of world peace is competition among nations. From Asia, to North America, Europe to Africa, South America to Australia, every nation is competing to be among the comity of nations. They do so through economic, political, and military means. As a result, there is not a clear willingness of cooperation, and this can be seen through the alliances that have been building up, including the NATO, EU, ECOWAS, and many more. They are all in their shared space, looking out for one another, instead of everyone. This competition isn’t only between alliances, it is also between nations, including the US vs Russia, US vs China, US vs Iran, China vs Japan, and so forth. We need to break these competition barriers in order for us to facilitate cooperation, but as we seen, NATO partners are carrying out military attacks against some Middle Eastern countries.

C2: Internal peace needs to be achieved, for International peace to existence:

There cannot be international peace if internal peace isn’t achieved. This is what has to be realized. As I write, there are conflicts on-going in some African countries, such as Central Africa Republic and Burundi. These conflicts are not limited only to Africa, they are on-going elsewhere. Conflicts do not simply have to be wars, it’s also struggle over power, citizens demanding greater freedom and not being imprison simply for what they believe in. It is also about people living in peace instead of fighting each other over tribe and religion. So long these two exist, domestic peace will be hard to achieved, and therefore, International peace isn’t possible.

C3: Terrorism and other disasters of our time:

World peace isn’t possible so long we have terrorism and other disasters that threaten our lives. Until terrorism and other disasters are eliminated, the hope for world peace isn’t possible, because it will threaten people happiness and will hold nations back of progress. If nations are held back of progress, economic, political and social condition will not improve, those have the potential to create internal divisions and disputes.

As humans , do imaginary lines on a map mean something? We are all humans, can't put a side, the competition that drives us apart. We do not need internal peace to get world peace. If we work together as a community of people who share a common goal , we can work TOGETHER to combat terrorism and violence attacks against humanity. If we all work together instead of fighting, we could put all of our resources together and hit the issue on the head.

Instead of thinking of ourselves as just Americans, we need to knowingly accept that we are all citizens of the world. That we all live here and work here , we need to make this place a better place for our children's children and so on. Working as one is weak but working as many is strong.

We all want a world where terrorism and war and homelessness are a thing of the past. We want a place where everyone is look at as equals no matter what Faith they practice or what gender they are or what age they are or any thing like that. We want a place where, we can ensure that the rest of the human race will be able to thrive on and survive.
