all tho an artiste is a job in modern society why so do we insist on having a degree or being certified?
where as art is to be define as
the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. (dictionary.com) then a two year old is able to be a legitimate artiste. Any one able to slap paint on a paper or srible on a note pad should be recognised as having creativity, but they don't because to be an artiste you have to meet so many useless qualifications...
based on my definition any one with the eye for beauty and creativity to do grate works of "art " should be deemed an artist one thing art is we shouldn't have to go to collage for!!!!

I would like open by saying that I may not completely agree with everything I will say, not do I completely disagree with everything my opponent says. I would also like to say that yes, an artist, in essence, is anyone that can draw, paint, sculpt, or splash a scribble. Anyone that imagines and creates can be considered an artist.

HOWEVER.

You have falsely stated that people that slap things on paper are not considered real artists, when in fact they are.

You have also stated that you HAVE TO have a degree in order to be a professional artist, which is simply not true. There are many ways one can be a professional artist, for example: Anyone that creates and then sells their art could be professional, and you do not need a degree for that.
Nor do you need a degree to be enrolled in an animation studio, or commissioned to draw/create something

Yes, you would benefit from having the degree, but it is not REQUIRED for anything.

Because I argue PRO to the topic title/prompt, I will continue on that note.

I believe it is right to need to have a degree to be employed as a professional artist.
To actually attend an art college and to take a program, on average, takes two years. During this program, let's take animation as an example, you will learn fundamentals, new techniques, new methods, handle new mediums, typically pass through a Life Drawing course, you will broaden your perspectives, learn the basics of animation, the process of animation, actually animate something, learn how the businesses are managed, you will learn how to create and then create a portfolio, as well as learn the history of animation. And, of course, those are just the things off the top of my head.
Having this degree will let an employer know that you have attended schooling, learned things the way they may have wanted you to, and you have shown a sense of dedication to the arts, as well as a lot of growth.

i disagree with what my aponet has said he clams to be a professional one needs a degree but in fact a professional can be any one with years of experts in any given area. for instance a professional lawn mower dose not have to obtain a licence and the lawn mower's job is simple ... just like the artiest they have natural talents that shouldn't need a pice of paper for them to be recognisable on a social standard

It pains me to do so, but I must refute your only argument based on a technicality.

You misread me.

I never once said that a professional needs to have a degree, I stated the opposite. I did, however say in my debate that "I think it is right for someone to need one."
If we were to take another glance at my example, a professional animator, or someone working for an animation company, we would easily understand how this job is much more complex than mowing a lawn.
In the studio one must understand every step of the creation to an extent, as well as being as knowledgeable as possible about their own field, and then follow up by applying this knowledge and knowing how to interact with their coworkers.

Your sole rebuttal was a misquotation and a vague explanation of your first post.

An artist is anyone that imagines and creates.
A professional artist can be described as someone being paid to do their work.

For an artist to work, to re-vist my previous example again, as a professional animator in a studio, they would greatly benefit from the degree. The employer would be much more impressed by their obvious dedication, their taken initiative, and their ability to learn.
Would a doctor practice without his PhD?

no a doctor wouldn't practice with out his PhD due to the fact he wouldn't be a doctor and he wouldn't have the title because he's not licence to do so ,
with out the PhD he is nothing.
i will continue to argue sort is one of those things a piece of paper shouldn't stop any individual from getting "paid " for there services ..
its like frying fries at Burger king any one can do it so why do u need to be certified ?
my opponent states that the lack of certification ony means the artist is not recognised by pay ,but indeed most unlicensed artiste continue to go unrecognised in small and large urban areas.
it should be implied art be established as a national vocation despite the degree. many jobs contain positions for creative minds and a vast majority don't involve degrees so why should this be any different ?

Yet again, hun, you are either completely misunderstanding my words, or simply not reading them.

And artist does not need the degree to be paid, and many do get paid without it.

In the end, whether or not you get hired depends on the quality and variety of the portfolio you submit. The degree counts for bonus points.
And at the risk of sounding redundant, the degree would enhance their skills, provide them with knowledge crucial to the job they will be performing, and give the employer an obviously dedicated individual.

Reasons to vote Pro?
My opponent has been doing nothing but providing misquotations, and seemingly no new or strong points.
