Disclaimer: I am gay and am not homophobic in any way!

==Opening Case==

My opponent seems to contradict himself, in this debate [1] he states "it is not right to keep somebody from what they believe." I fully accept this pretense that my opponent agrees withl. Therefore, it is okay to be homophobic. My opponent appears to have contradicted himself.
  1. It is wrong to keep someone from what they believe.
  2. If homophobia is what they believe, then they should have the right to believe that.
  3. People believe in homophobia.
  4. Therefore, they deserve the right to believe that.
Let me make myself loud and clear, if someone dislikes someone because they are gay, so be it. However, it is wrong to act upon their hatred (i.e., discrimination).

Thank you. Vote PRO!

Con

Thank you for accepting my debate.

I'm sorry on the typo on the title my debate partner cant spell that well.

now on to my case

Resolve: I believe that Homophobia is wrong because it is a form of discrimination and hatred. most places of business and schools have put in to policy that discrimination on someone because of Gender,Skin Colour, and Sexual Orientation. so why should society put up with such hatred?

I urge you to vote con.

Why should they put up with hatred? Because they have the right to believe what they want to believe as you conceded in previous debates.

It is okay to dislike someone because if who they are--but let me make myself clear, it is NOT OKAY TO ACT UPON THEIR HATRED.

you should. its called peaceful protest. Martin Luther king used it, Ceaser Chavez used it. it is perfectly affective. im bi so i want the hatred to stop, and it should and we should do something about it

Yeah..you realize this is a debate. You need to defend the position that someone has Jo right to be homophobic.

Peaceful protesting is perfectly fine, though it doesn't prove that it is not okay to be homophobic. In addition, my arguments still stand.

What is there left to do? Vote pro!

Reasons for voting decision: Con did not successfully negate Pro's assertion that people have a right to (possibly distasteful) beliefs as long as they don't lead to harming people.

Reasons for voting decision: There is a difference between being scared of people and discriminating against people. Pro pointed that out while Con just stop providing arguments. The one source though was a reference to a debate so I just decided to leave sources at a tie along with grammar

Reasons for voting decision: My recommendation would be to read through some of the other debates on this site, as well as the orientation threads, to see how debating is done here. A little proof reading wouldn't hurt either.
