In my opinion, military draft should not be legalized. By doing so, it would take away the american people's rights. One specific right that we, as American citizens, have is the freedom to worship if you wish. Many people do not agree with military yet alone war or draft.

Con believes military draft is a bad thing and should not be legal. I will be giving the benefits of The Draft.

I would like to state a bible scripture first.
There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven""
A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together; A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace.

1st Argument. "A military draft is beneficial because it expands the military in size and age range. A draft provides a quick way for the military to expand its size because of the thousands of people who will be required to join.
2nd Statement- "A benefit of enlisting a military draft is to secure America's status among other nations."
WashingtonMonthly.com published an article by Phillip Carter and Paul Glastris called, "The Case for the Draft." The authors state that a draft helps America remain as the world's superpower"

I agree, there is a time for everything but this is not the time to rely on bible scriptures regarding this topic in general. Do you understand how much money it would cost for everyone(as in people who are chosen for the draft) to be funded for? Quick is not always the right way, especially for Americans. We do most things in a quick yet non efficient way. Things never get done and if they do its a half done job. Issues still occur and more problems than before will arise due to Americans quick and "efficient" ideas. Regarding your statement, I would like to point out one thing about the article you have brought up. Most of it is opinionated and not factual. If other countries see that America has expended our military, they will assume we are up to something and then form their own expansion of military. Overall, this would cause disputes and disruptions among everyone. Over time, Americans will just want to become bigger and more advanced but by doing so, we are actually hurting ourselves in the long run.

The only point your bringing up is the cost. You have not brought up any arguments towards my other points.
Though the Draft is expensive, this is the only way, if short on solders to defend our nation.
Actually there are strong reasons for believing that an all-volunteer system will involve lower social costs than a system with conscription.
Budget outlays will be higher of course, but this is not indicative of true relative social costs.
There will be additional savings through a more efficient use of all men of draft age, including those threatened by the draft but never inducted. Many men subject to the draft have gone to great lengths to redesign their lives in order to avoid conscription. Enrollment in colleges and seminaries, employment in draft deferred positions, and legal action to avoid the draft cost society $2.50 for every $1.00 saved the taxpayers through the draft. The entire social fabric has been strained by military conscription, for in no other sphere of activity in our society do we permit such an arbitrary system of involuntary servitude.

Another reason for anticipating lower manpower costs would be that volunteers are likely to have a substantially higher reenlistment rate than draftees. Thus with an all-volunteer force there will be considerable savings in training costs as a result of the lower turnover rates. With a two-year tour of duty involving six months of basic training and a couple of months of processing for discharge, the military actually receives very little benefit from draftees who do not reenlist.

I have never said anything about slavery nor was this debate about slavery. Yes, it has issues with rights and privledges but this is about military draft and i would appreciate it if it stayed on this issue. By saying that, refrences from slavery can be used but not as a main topis or arguemnet.

Carthage, "slavery"?

I'm pretty sure that national service, conscription, or military draft (and yes, they are all slightly different), cannot really be described as slavery.

Conscription= Slavery. Just as it is not morally justifiable to say that slavery is okay because it boosted the South's economy, so it is not justifiable to say conscription is okay because it boosts America's world status.
