90% of Americans agree there should be a minimum wage, and that the current minimum wage is too low
harrytruman

Con

Switzerland has no minimum wage, yet their average earnings are 6,200 CHF a month {1}, about 6,300$ month in USD. The Swiss are earning more than we are, with no minimum wage, this is because the Swiss have something called a "free market" and "labour unions," so they don't need a minimum wage, infact they do better without it and are more productive. Think about it, if you are guarenteed 10$ a hour for your labour, you would be inclined for personal profit, to put in labour worth less than 10$ a hour. Whereas if you are payed according to the quality of your work, you become more productive to earn more money.
Also, the tenth ammendment saysa:
"The powers not delegated to the Federal Goveronment, nor prohibbited to the states, shall be granted to the states respectvely, or to the people."
The constitution never grants the federal goveronment the power to establish a minimum wage, so this power should be given to the states through state minium wages, or to the people through labour unions.

Since you're 15 years old, you don't even know what it's like to work for minimum wage for months, years, DECADES. Switzerland's minimum wage is TWENTY TWO dollars an hour by the way
harrytruman

Con

What are you talking about? Switzerland had a 22$ minimum wage BILL that was voted down by 78% of the popular vote. And please cite your sources.

Again, I'm not going to do YOUR job for you. The FACT of the matter is that over NINETY 90 % of Americans agree our current minimum wage is TOO LOW. Debate that FACT. Majority WINS anyway, so legislation WILL be passed to RAISE the minimum wage because THAT is what MOST Americans want to happen
harrytruman

Con

My job? You made the claim- the BOP is on you, you didn't cite anything, but you did drop my argument of the 10th ammendment.

7 points to Con. Reasons for voting decision: I still agree that the minimum wage is an important necessity in society. But migmag gave no actual argument other than YELLING at his OPPONENT using ERRATIC CAPITALIZATION and providing no adequate SOURCES. As said before what he typed was his own personal ramblings and MADE lots of USE of ERRATIC CAPITALIZATION which MADE it HARD to READ

[*Reason for removal*] (1) The voter doesn't explain conduct. (2) Sources and arguments are insufficiently explained. The voter is required to specifically assess arguments made by both side. Even if only one side gave arguments, the voter is still required to explain either why that lack ensured that Pro didn't meet his BoP, or why Con's arguments were sufficient to net him the debate. Sources similarly require that the voter establish that Con had reliable sources, even if Pro presented none.

6 points to Con (S&G, Arguments, Sources). Reasons for voting decision: Sources go to Con because he was the only one that used sources while Pro refused to use them completely. Arguments go to Con as he was the only one to create a proper argument, and this argument was not rebutted by Pro. Con referenced the Swiss, and was able to cite his source on this reference as well. Pro's entire argument was based on 90% of Americans wanting to raise the wage, which he neither cited or argued for. This was an objective win for Con.

[*Reason for removal*] (1) The voter doesn't explain S&G. (2) Arguments are insufficiently explained. The voter has to specifically assess arguments made by both debaters. While he does this partially for both debaters, there's no clear assessment of any of Pro's arguments beyond a statement that he "referenced the Swiss", which is not sufficient.

This worthless moron who capitalizes half his sentences thinks that a report is enough to get you banned? A 40-some year old that works in HR and thinks we should increase minimum wage just because 90% of the people want us to, even though he doesn't provide citations for this. Truman, it will be incredibly easy for you to win this debate, so please stop responding to him as a round and actually write a contention. The guy is an absolute waste of life, it should take an IQ of 5 to beat him.

Reasons for voting decision: This was a clear win for con. Conduct to con because of the yelling and calling him a "child." Pro's only argument was an argumentum ad populum (a logical fallacy). Argument went to con because he shows that 1) Raising the minimum wage was unconstitutional (as per the 10th amendment) and 2) By citing Switzerland (without a min. wage), their wages are, on average, higher. Pro never rebuts this.
