Shynar

Pro

Education is the most important thing at present.
TheDevilsAdvocate

Con

I accept this challenge.

I do not believe education to be the most important thing, though it is important.
Health and well being are more important than education because without health, how can one be educated?

If your very life is being threatened, then education will be not be the most important thing; the most important thing is to be in good health, safety, adequate food and hydration, shelter and biological homoeostasis.

Without any sort of this equilibrium, education cannot be sought and is indeed useless to be sought.

I await Pro's next argument so I can offer substantial rebuttals and solidify my argument further.

Pro

Shynar forfeited this round.

Con

Pro forfeited. I don't believe he has given enough time for anyone to argue.

Anyway, Maslow's hierarchy of needs suggests that physiological needs that I mentioned in my last argument such as food, shelter, safety, homoeostasis and water are at the foundation of a human's well being. [1]

If we are using Maslow's hierarchy as a reference, education would fall under esteem needs. There are physiological needs that ought to be fulfilled; as mentioned earlier as well as safety needs and love/belonging needs before esteem needs make a difference to a person's well being. [2]

Pro

Shynar forfeited this round.
TheDevilsAdvocate

Con

My argument stands from before. I have used Maslow's hierarchy of needs to point out that education would fall under esteem; certainly not love/belonging, safety and physiological and so is not the most important thing. This is through an existential sense, an individual's perspective on importance.

Pro has not given any further arguments, I am guessing this is because of the incredibly short time he set for the arguments, which I did not notice until I accepted the challenge. All judges should take this into consideration, we had only 15 minutes to post our arguments, hence my rushed responses and possibly explaining why Pro forfeited; though he was the one who set the time to be so short in the first place.

I would take the Con position in this debate as stated, except I do not meet the criteria.

Most important in what sense? It's trivially less important than, say, life, since if you're dead you can't possible become more educated.

Reasons for voting decision: Full forfeit. S&G to Con because of the lack of capitalization in the resolution; all other points are self-explanatory I think.
