I believe that teens 13-17 should be allowed to watch any rated R movie they want without parents permission

I will show that age restrictions need to be implemented on movies for the following reasons:

-Age restrictions on movies are in place more for the parents then the children.

-Removing age restrictions on movies would open an epidemic of people wanting to remove age restrictions on other restricted things.

Age restriction in place for parents

A 14 year old boy is classified as "underage" or below the age of majority because his country/state/region declares him to not be fit to make the necessary decision for his own good. Thus, the underage child's parent/guardian is entrusted to make these decisions for him. The restriction is placed on movies to keep said underage children from viewing explicit material without their parents permission. If the parent/guardian deems a film unfit for their son, then it is in the best interest for the underage child.

Removing age restrictions on movies would open more people to dispute other age restricted things

If the age restriction was removed on movies, underage children would push to have other restricted materials made available to them. Should we then allow 15 year old children to buy alcohol? And allow 16 year old children to smoke cigarettes? I think many would agree that this would be unacceptable, mainly because it is harmful to the body, true.

Consider this then:

Should 14 year old children be allowed to buy pornography? Porn is not necessarily unhealthy, yet, in most states/provinces you must be 18 years old to buy it. It is this way because those that are the age of majority found pornography to be to explicit for people under the age of 18. It is the same with movies, as most movies are rated R because they contain pornography.

I await your rebuttal.
