A world without the threat of Nuclear weapons would mean a much safer world for the civilians
Midnight1131

Con

I accept. I believe that nuclear disarmament is not practical at the moment. I await for my opponent to make their opening round.

Unfortunately my opponent has forfeited the first round, I will state my opening arguments now.

Complete Nuclear Disarmament is Impractical
The following is a list of countries with nuclear weaponry.
  • USA
  • Russian Federation
  • United Kingdom
  • France
  • China
  • India
  • Pakistan
  • North Korea

Now on this list, only the first 5 countries have agreed to be constricted by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. This is an international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament. The last 3 countries have not subscribed to this treaty, this means that among the entire list of states with nuclear weaponry, only 5 are bound by international treaty, and only 5 are committed to limiting the spread of nuclear weapons. This means that even if those 5 eventually destroy their nuclear stockpile, the last 3 countries have not made any commitment to curtail their nuclear weapons program. There is no real way to force these countries legally, to destroy their nuclear weapons.

I will leave it at that for now, I will save some of my arguments for the next round, hopefully my opponent comes back to this debate in the next round.
