people that was once together should remain friends because if you had that good connection with some one and it didn't work out for some reason i think it would be nice 2 have someone that knows you more than any other guy or girl. Someone that can help you out in your next relationship. just a good friend.

People should not remain friends after being in a relationship with each other.

Yes, there was a good connection with each other while you were in the relationship, however, the fact that they know so much about you is the breaking point for the friendship. If it was a truly good relationship then they should know a lot if not everything about you, even the embarrassing stuff that no one else knows. In order to be friends with them you're going to have to come face-to-face with the person again and often. Every time you do so you will think about everything that they know, that you don't really want them to know.

Therefore, the embarrassment from the stuff that they know can keep you from remaining friends.

Another reason can be how difficult of a break-up it was. If the couple had a rough break-up, they won't want to be friends. If one had accused the other of something that was not true and that was the reason for their break-up, the accused won't want to be friends. Smooth break-ups are incredibly rare, but even then there can be circumstances that make it so the ex-couple don't want to be friends.

I would like to carry through my previous argument.

I would also like to reiterate that circumstances within the relationship determine the friendship status.
Sometimes, a person may think that their relationship is perfectly fine, then the couple breaks up. After the couple has broken up, information comes forward that was not known before about the relationship. This information also plays into the friendship situation.

Once again I would like to carry through all of my previous arguments, as it seems my opponent has forfeited.

Staying friends with an ex would probably be awkward once the two start dating again. Even if neither one involved in the old relationship feels any jealousy, what of the guy's new girlfriend or the girl's new boyfriend? They may say that the friendship is fine, but wouldn't they be uncomfortable with it deep down?

I think this is a stupid subject to debate and it depends on every individual circumstance and every individual relationship. What if a the man is abusing the woman should she stay friends with him? What if there is cheating involved? What if there are other circumstances? To say that all people should remain friends with their ex is crazy.

i dont know dude, i remained great friends with my ex boyfriends. I found no reason to not be friends you went through alot to together and maybe some day you could start something new again.

"should" isn't really a subject of debate. Most of the time, they just can't. And it's harder for a guy to be "just friends" with an ex than for a girl.
