While children are given a period (usually every day) to participate in these extracurricular activities, it takes away from the learning environment. This wild period allows kids to learn how to be competitive and possibly even upset if they lose. In place of this gym period- students should have a course that will benefit their future or help them save time doing homework by possibly having a "Study Hall" period.

i am from Lansing Michigan, And our governor Rick snyder is tryng to make it where your obese child has to be maintaned...... i feel that while we are in gym/ pe we are excersising and doing whats best for us because obesity can cause diabetes.....

Pro

Thank you for your reply.

Pro says: "obesity can cause diabetes"
My answer: Maintaining a child's health is not the school's responsibility. The school is solely there to educate the child. The child's health is the parent's responsibility. If the child was fed properly and healthy at home, there would be no "obesity" for these children. This PE period takes away from the child learning.

...... Thank Yhu For Yhur reply.... Yhes the statement yhu made was true ihf they bwere fed right at home there wil be no obesity, The school helps With making sure kids are physically active,
Q: Isnt it The Schools job To teach education for A Life Of Goodnes..
I Have No ferther statement till mii oponet answers my question to you

Con's argument proves that Physical Education should be taken out of schools. If Con had more lecture time in an English class and less time playing Dodge ball in her Physical Education class, maybe Con would write proper English.

School is primarily to teach EDUCATIONAL subjects, such as English, Math, Science, and History. Health education is the parent's job.

This girl makes a fool of herself in every debate she participates in. She could at least learn English before she challenges someone. Some intelligence wouldn't hurt either.

breanadawnx3, you should be arguing that physical education SHOULD be abolished, not that it SHOULDN'T be abolished.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro's last statement was somewhat harsh, especially noting Con's poor use of the English language in the final round. In spite of the lack of sources/further contentions as elaboration, Pro won. His notion that since education is to TEACH students (a premise that Con did not question and even conceded to) was not refuted by Con's argument (physical education-improve health of student body)...
