Schools should not give summer work
ConservativePolitico

Con

Summer work prevents brain drain.

This study showed how summer school helped students achieve higher spots in universities. [1] If summer school helps students then summer work would also help (even if to a lesser degree) and is better than no work at all.

Teachers spend the first weeks of school reteaching things from the year before, summer work tries to either prevent this or ease this.

Not working all summer is not good for students.

Thank you but know this, we have over 100 days to wake up go to school for more than 7 hours then we do work homework quizzes, projects. And finally when it is summer we work summer reading project. thats wrong. Good Luck
ConservativePolitico

Con

Yes but like I have shown, this summer work helps students be better prepared for the next year. While it's still work it is significantly less than school day work. Every bit of work helps.

Also, in the real world, you don't get summers off. Giving students the summer off 100% is a poor showing of reality.

What you say makes much sense but view it from the students point of view. We work all this time throughout the week, even the weekend. And its not like it is just one class, it it more than 5 I have seven. if that is not bad enough we also have to study. We need time to relax we should not be given work after this long school year. Good LUck

Con

Like I said, working over the summer is much less than working during the day during the school year. Also, it helps to prevent brain drain in students which improves education and future employment prospects.

Also, giving students summers off is disingenuous to reality. In the real world, workers do not get summers off and have to work 5-6 days a week all year long, year after year. Giving summers to students makes them lazy by causing them to expect time off.

Summer work is good for students.

I do, in fact, very much like the Japanese school system. In my mind, the perfect educational system would balance the Japanese educational system and the German educational system.

You'd like the Japanese school system then

Perhaps it's just my natural elitism... but I think that school should be year round with approximately two weeks of vacation in the summer, and two weeks of vacation in the winter. The school day should last from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a two hour lunch break, and about two to three hours of homework should follow. There should also be coffee machines. Coffee machines are important.

Reasons for voting decision: Quick read. Pro made the same argument that it is too much work and there is plenty of time to do it in school. I would have liked to have seen Pro have more arguments. Perhaps argue the benefits of time off to pursue jobs/other passions, or show negative effects of stress on students. Con made multiple arguments. Cons link did not work for me by the way.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro basically repeated his arguments and didn't refute con's rebuttals. Con, on the other hand, provided good reasons for schools to give work over the summer and refuted pro's arguments
