Abortion should be illegal. I feel like people that have a abortion and say they would never kill anybody in their life but they could kill a baby that's not right or fair. I can understand that having a baby is hard but, you have an adoption chose for that situation. when you have an abortion your taking away a life that could have did something big with them self.

I accept this debate.

I'd like to clarify that because of the topic wording, this is a debate about abortion as an all or nothing law. This means that my opponent is against abortions regardless of circumstance.

I'll start by attacking my opponent's arguments.

First, my opponent says that abortion is murder. This is false because the child has not been born yet. According to Miriam Webster, life is "the period from birth to death"[1], so if the baby has not been born yet, it is not alive. Unless my opponent can give a good reason as to why the baby is alive before this, then his argument has no impact.

My opponent's only other argument is that we are extinguishing the unborn child's potential. This is true, but is not a reason to outlaw abortion. If potential life was that important then we would all be horrible people for not having sex constantly because we would be denying the life and potential of all the unused sperm and eggs. Since this would clearly not be to our benefit, the importance of potential must not be very big.

Now, onto my arguments

One of the main problems with outlawing abortion is the use of unsafe "back alley" abortions. "Unsafe abortion is believed to result in approximately 69,000 deaths and millions of injuries annually. The legal status of abortion is believed to play a major role in the frequency of unsafe abortion. For example, the 1996 legalization of abortion in South Africa had an immediate positive impact on the frequency of abortion-related complications, with abortion-related deaths dropping by more than 90%. Groups such as the World Health Organization have advocated a public-health approach to addressing unsafe abortion, emphasizing the legalization of abortion, the training of medical personnel, and ensuring access to reproductive-health services." [2]. Since legalizing abortions would reduce deaths, I am actually saving real lives, unlike my opponent.

Another benefit of legalizing abortion is its effect on the crime rate. "Crime began to fall roughly eighteen years after abortion legalization. The five states that allowed abortion in 1970 experienced declines earlier than the rest of the nation, which legalized in 1973 with Roe v. Wade. States with high abortion rates in the 1970s and 1980s experienced greater crime reductions in the 1990s. In high abortion states, only arrests of those born after abortion legalization fall relative to low abortion states. Legalized abortion appears to account for as much as 50 percent of the recent drop in crime." [3]. This is because those that are born into families that would have aborted them are much more likely to commit crime. We would be helping everyone by lowering the crime rate if abortion is legal.

Because I save more lives and do more good for everyone, vote Pro.

Suggest that we eliminate those who can potentially be criminals as well as those who have a chance at being noncriminals. We don't know and as far as the topical news reports, crime is just growing rampant with this abortion act included. Making it illegal or legal , we still have folks that will endanger themselves attempting abortion themselves depending on the circumstances . So is it saving lives? It's all how it's looked upon. Either way somebody loses their life in the end and this is one forms of nonreproduction being pushed in the world. Fortunately we expect to find many that advocate for life to maintain mostly to our survival so that even many of you non advocators of life can exist on this planet. You Lively ,breathing and voicing your side for choice/freedom and anti-life in a sense in some cases. Best be thankful for that.

In continuation of the definition analysis , these varies definitions fit into different contexts . When discussing birth to death, that's the active external , conscious experienced world view of the person. An example given as a sentence in the definition is mentioning one's living one's whole life , life span, lifetime or my whole life as it relates to active consciousness. In that context the nonconsciouness it not being considered or counted. Normally people will discuss life as an experience not as in a dream or unconscious during surgery, etc. . So a life is being killed, murdered, terminated. There have been cases and videos showing the unbaby avoiding to be probed and killed or the baby is pulled out into the medical pan and is still twitching . That's life potential extinguished . Another definition of life is energy , the same energy in that baby in and out of the womb. Now life potential doesn't exist the same as successful implantation if the couple doesn't have sex due to so many variables in between and after sex. There's a potential for sex and pregnancy but probability of conception is not certain until it happens. The man ejaculates so much seed that could have been a potential for implantation. People have no control over that particular activity. What THEY DO HAVE CONTROL OVER is what happens after conception . Now we have major potential which shouldn't be question as long as miscarriage , etc. has been ruled out . Abortion supporters are walking , talking contradictors against there ownselves. If you are glad that you are alive and have a huge grip to your life, you would also be glad that your progenitors did not support or practice abortion. You can't be loving your life and support the power of eliminating it prematurely at the same time. This kind of behavior and line of thinking is counterproductive. Your hurting your own cause being here. Now about the crime rates which are really coincidental.

Some are just not prepared or take the debate seriously so in result they become lopsided and one sided such as this one. First point to attack is the argument for the definition of the word life. The definition given in this so called debate was very shortsighted. Most likely nitpicked to suit the supporter of abortion. The word life has many definitions including the one given. The several definitions that vary between the other are found in different dictionaries as well as in the same. It's easy to find one definition that suits the person and move on . Now besides the definition of birth to death , if that was the ONLY definition , it would be contradicting in a lot of other scenarios. The same activity a born baby does would be found with an unborn baby . The only different is between inside and outside of the mother basically. It doesn't become alive when born, it's already alive . Now some may consider life after birth , doesn't make it fact . The heart is beating , the lungs are functioning , the baby eats , etc. because it lives as well as it grows. That's another definition of life as well as maybe the first definition. Life is defined as something separate from inorganic , inanimate things that can FUNCTION , has GROWTH, and of reproduction or able to reproduce and this is an inability Of a dead body/entity. Life is a precious and complex nature in which we marginalized for selfish carnal reasons. Commit the actions without going through the results or consequences. We rather smoke cigarettes and have a lung transplant than the correct move. We rather have sex and the result and purpose to surviving humans to then counter produce by terminating the life. Just double standardizing contradictory and removal of life from our bodies. Basically these varies definitions just fit different contexts. So when can identify life when we find those lively characteristics listed above.

Reasons for voting decision: Arguments to Pro since his point about legalizing abortion would lead to less illegal abortions was convincing. Pro also pointed out that by making abortion illegal, it would be unfair to rape victims. Sources also go to Pro for actually using them.
