Con

I accept the 'Con' side of this debate.

I will be arguing that, if we're looking to change the voting system, the Single Transferable Vote should be adopted instead, not the Alternative Vote.

I will give Pro the opportunity to return in R3; should he fail to do so I will issue some points for my argument.

Con

Given that my opponent has disappeared, as I see it, I just have to provide one disadvantage of AV and one advantage of STV to win arguments and conduct.

So:

AV is an inferior system to the present First Past The Post (FPTP) voting system as the person with the highest number of first preference votes - the most popular candidate - is not always elected.

STV is a superior system because the most popular candidate is always elected yet other candidates can be elected to represent differing views within a multi-member constituency.

Therefore AV < FPTP < STV.
Vote Con.
