Boys and girls should be raised with equality, however they need a structure or biases to start from which as parents you know due to your up bring and societal norms .

Which world are you living in? Their is so much of progress in gender equality in areas of corporate, sports, education as well as politics. No difference should be made on the capabilities of the child as it's this difference that is causing the harassment and sexual offense by one gender on other. Also, their has a time come where the half of the world (female) needs to be equal to the half of the world. Their is 90% of participation in criminal activities by men, that is what the social biases and their superiority is teaching them.

I am not saying that they should act according to society but they do need structure . as a parent how do you raise your new born child with no structure of any type of gender characterization? do you go to the store and buy dolls and trucks for your baby boy and let him play with it ? At such a young age children do not know any bases of it furthermore both boys and girls have different needs socially and mentally

Well I must say, this gender characterization is only leading to the gender gap. But besides seeing it this way, if we have to prepare our child (not yours and mine) for their future, do we really need to create a structure by using different types of toys for each other. Doesn't it symbolize inequality from their childhood? If they have to grow according to social norms and so called social etiquette, they will eventually learn it by themselves. It becomes biasing between the two from their parents if they are given particular choices, it should be according to their interests with what they want to play. A girl may like truck and a boy a doll!
