Con

First, I'd like to thank my opponent for this debate and for allowing me to debate them.

My opponent contends that we, at the age of 13, should be allowed to leave the primary education system. It is my task to prove to the audience that we should not, however the burden of proof is still upon my opponent.

13 years of age is too early to leave schooling, because in the United States minors are still technically under the legal authority of their parents until the age of 18. This means that until they are 18, minors cannot legally leave school without their parents' permission. Even if the law was bent for this special occasion, 13 is still an early age. Many children have not even entered puberty by age 13. There are vital things that only a high school education can provide for one to operate in society effectively. Things like personal finance, writing and English, a basic knowledge of world and United States history, a fundamental understanding in math, at least Algebra 1 or Algebra 2. Without these basic fundamentals 13 year olds would not be able to function in society. There are also child labor laws, that prevent such ages from working. Instead of schooling or working, what would they be doing? Living out on the streets?

Thank you for your time. I urge you vote against this resolution.

Reasons for voting decision: Absolutely no doubt that Con should win this one. Pro had only one word to support his position, and failed to give reason or proof as to why the education system should allow students to leave at age 13.

Reasons for voting decision: This was not a debate, I agree with Pro, but Con actually put up an argument, and Pro had no grammar.
