Homosexuals should not be allowed in boy scouts. Boy Scouts has the freedom to decide who they want to admit to their organization, and they can use whatever criteria for those admissions. Boy scouts is a completely private organization with a set of beliefs and traditions. These beliefs are not necessarily of a spiritual nature, but they are beliefs nonetheless and therefore should be protected under the first amendment. Boy scouts has made it extremely clear that they do not believe homosexuality is harmless, and they have expressed extreme distaste and being very uncomfortable with homosexuals being in their organization. Boy Scouts is a very personal organization where its members often spend an ample amount of time together in situations that could be very uncomfortable with someone who is homosexual. Boy scouts have to camp and sleep together and have to change in front of each other. It is quite easy to see how these situations could be uncomfortable for straight males if homosexual males were also in their presence.
This topic cannot even be related or paralleled to gay marriage besides the fact that they both deal with homosexuals. Gay marriage is a purely political movement that has to do with the government treating people with equality. It has to do with the laws of our American government which is supposed to protect and provide for all including minorities. However boy scouts is a private organization. The Constitution does not apply to them to the same extent that it applies to our government, therefore the choice of whether or not to permit gays to be scouts is completely up to the Boy Scouts organization.

thanks for accepting this debate

I am a scout and i agree with the new law that gays are aloud into scouts they deserve the right to be in scouts we are all the same no matter what kind of people we like, we can be straight as a circle or just straight as general. Yes I believe the Boy Scouts of America should allow both gay members and leaders because the cub scout motto is to do your duty to our Country which was founded with ideas and one of those ideas is the pursuit of happiness so they're going off the path. as you can tell i agree with gays being in the Boy Scouts of America we are all humans and deserve the right to be part of a very big group of young men.
If they want to be in scouts let them be, I see it as we are pushing them away from something they want to be part of.

"We are all humans and deserve the right to be part of a very big group of young men."
This is a direct quote from you. I just wanted to ask you where in the Bill of Rights is this specific right listed? Where in the philosophies of natural law created by John Locke, is this right expressed as something all humans "deserve"? The Boy Scouts organization is a private organization. What you or anyone else feels is morally right as far as discrimination of homosexuals for admissions is completely irrelevant. You may see straight people and homosexuals as one in the same but Boy Scouts does not, and no one can tell them otherwise because that is of a completely moral and therefore subjective matter. You have implied that the "right to be part of a very big group of young men" has been denied to homosexuals but surely this right cannot trump the freedom of religion, or the right to expressive association which protects private organizations from having their beliefs impaired due to a number of things including the admission of its members. No matter what one believes is morally right, Boy Scouts is protected by law to not allow gays into their organization, and they should be protected by law. New laws that are forcing them to accept gays into their organization are completely contradictory to our Bill of Rights and the First Amendment.
