we can learn form history here lets go back in to the past. 1920 to 1939. hitler was a threat to the world and undoing the treaty of Versailles one by one and no one took him as a threat until he took a majority of what was lost back. it took along time to take him as a threat. and lets look at today I personally don't want isis taking a majority the middle east. we should stop and crush isis now while there still growing. recently they attacked and took a Syrian town. just as hitler invaded Poland.

Before I start, let's structure this debate. Round 1 will be for opening statements, round 2 for arguments and rebuttals and the 3rd round will be for our closingn statements. First, allow me to point out where my opponent and I agree. Ground troops are obviously necessary. Air strikes aid the war, but they will never win it. This assertion is clearly evidenced by the recent conquests of Ramadi and Palmyra, where coalition air forces pummeled ISIS positions for weeks. You specifically mention Germany. Germany hasn't done much militarily since 1945. Granted that they've aided In peacekeeping missions in places like Sudan and Kosovo, that said, peacekeeping missions are distinctly different from taking and holding territory from a fanatical opponent like the Islamic State. You mentioned in your opening statement that few, if any, nations saw a threat in Nazi Germany. The world has clearly recognized a threat since summer of the previous year, perhaps that's why over 60 countries are waging war against the group. I'm assuming in the phrase "other allied countries" you also mean the US. American involvement is exactly what ISIS wants. There is a video posted by Vice News called The Islamic State ( full length ) and it is about 42 minutes long. In it, there is an interview with press officer of the terrorist group in which he essentially says let the American dogs come and fight us so we can spill their blood. By
Sending in ground troops, we would substantiate the notion of a crusade. This would fuel recruiting efforts and would probably lead to an uptick in attacks on Germany, the US and every other coalition country. This is 2015, not 1939. We are fighting radical Islam, not Nazism. Clearly, there are similarities to be drawn, but this isn't 70 years ago. Perhaps we should train and arm the Kurds and the Shitte militias without going through the bureaucracy and red tape of Baghdad. Iraqi troops obviously haven't cut it, but the answer isn't in sending in another foreign army into Syria and Iraq and going back 10 years later to fix the mess.
