Zoos protect animals, you can learn in them, and inspire people to help endangered animals.

Con

I am happy to accept this debate. To summarize, zoos are a form of animal cruelty and are not conducive to a greater sense of conservation. Zoos must be banned in the USA and animals must be allowed to live free in their natural habitats on reservations that are protected from hunters and tourists.

Thank you, Pro, for beginning this debate, and I look forward to your opening argument!

However, you must sometimes synthesize an environment that is conducive to an organisms survival, especially if they are near extinction. This is most accurately the biggest benefit of zoos. While viewed as unethical, they often foster a rehabilitation of a species that is endangered. As to animal cruelty, the goal of any organism is to survive. To do so, it means adequate resources with the least distance-time ratio paired to its location. Creatures in a zoo or any such sanctuary are fed and have all their needs close at hand, which is essentially the goal of their existence. In saying this, I fail to see how zoos, if conducted in the proper fashion, border anything near animal cruelty.

If you want to protect animals, you do not do so by make money exploiting them in a zoo, you spend money protecting their environment.
