I do not think that the pledge of allegiance should be forced upon students and staff at schools.

The pledge of allegiance should be taught and recited daily in schools.

In elementary schools it helps young children learn loyalty and pride in their country and being American. As well as learning to respect the flag, students can learn the history of the pledge and flag.

In high school, it should be part of the daily routine, BUT I believe each individual should be able to choose whether or not they participate during the recitation. In high school a student is old enough to form their own opinion, and it can be discussed among peers the reasons why they choose to participate or not. If a student chooses not to participate I believe they should respect others rights to do so and sit or stand quietly during its recital. This teaches students acceptance on either side of the issue and opens up conversation about America and its politics.

If your argument against the pledge is due to the phrase "under God," it is extreme to get rid of the whole pledge due to two words. "Under God," was not part of the original pledge but was added in 1954. It would be much more reasonable to have "under God" removed from the pledge.
