yes the us government should because half of the us soldiers do not have insurance for when they come home with injuries and they are not covered they should have it because it is not right at all all residents should have health care because everyone gets sick and they can't heal so this is what i think

∙We already have health care for all residents. It's just that some residents don't want to pay for their own care. The government shouldn't pay for everyone's care, everyone should take responsibility for themselves. If the government is going to use my tax money to pay for everyone's health care, then I should have the right to make sure you and everyone else live healthy, and not eat junk food, smoke or drink, to keep the rates that I pay, down.

Well, if they care about their health then they would pay for their healthcare. and Can the United States afford to? Universal health care is what is called an entitlement, like Social Security or Medicare. If we have the government start providing our health care be prepared for long waits for treatments and tests as well as the possibility of being denied treatment on the basis of economic feasibility by a government bureaucrat.

Health insurance is simply not the priority the libs make it out to be. If so, they would forgo all the expenses you mentioned before going without it. There are a some exceptions, but for the most part it is just another freebie they want handed out to them to compensate for their lack of financial discipline.

If you want health insurance get rid of the cell phone the cable bill, the Internet bill and that $300 dollar a month car payment. Just what responsibilities does a person have when they grow up. You have to pick and choose between what you need and what you want, that is called life. If the govt takes over health care the first thing it will do is: use it as an excuse to further regulate and monitor personal behavior and ration it. How can anyone not see that that would happen.

THIS is the one and only purely logical and correct stance on universal healthcare: http://www.objectivistcenter.org...

The view that they "should simply pay their health insurance" is way to simplified. I pay mine every month, but at their whim they can decide that something isn't covered. I had Blue Shield try to deny the anesthesia for my wife's emergency c-section because we didn't wait for a "blue shield approved" doctor. I had to fight for 12 months to get them to pay it.
Furthermore, I am the sole provider for my family so my wife can stay home and raise our kids. Now let's say I get injured by no fault of my own. Car accident, mugging, etc. If I'm disabled to the point where I can't work, I also lose my medical insurance for not only myself but my family. So to say "well just live healthier" isn't exactly perfect either.
The problem with our system is there are way to many ways to fall through the cracks, and the insurance companies have a capitalist incentive to not provide service. The government needs to do something, but I'm not sure if I want them to take it over. That just sounds like a change in management of who is screwing me. Maybe someone a lot smarter than me can figure out a way to make it work, but it's certainly not going to come from our current batch of turnip-truck politicians.

Taking into consideration the age of the 2 debaters, this is a very decent debate.

Nice.

Aietius, you really shouldn't make personal comments.
Even on the web.
Particularly not about 12-year-old girls.
