I strongly believe that we should not have the death penalty. 1 of every 7 people on death row are innocent. There are to many mistakes when it comes to taking a mans life. Jail time should be enough. At least it gives those innocent a chance to be free again and those that actually deserve to die, time to think about what they did. Most of the time, guilt eats them alive and they regret what they did for the rest of their lives. It also costs about $3.6 million dollars for every person we kill on death row. That's a lot of money that could be spent on schools, roads, work places, and many other areas.
I believe that the death penalty should be an option.
The death penalty is not just a punishment for criminals, it also provides closure for the family and victims. For the criminals that commit heinous crimes, it's a way to make sure they don't kill again.
By having the death penalty as an option might deter people from committing crime.
