Soccer is the best sport because it takes lots of conditioning, sprinting, quick movements, feet skill (not hands), most popular in the world, and there are 22 players moving around the entire time.

Instead of refuting each of your arguments, I will propose MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) as a sport to be considered on par with soccer.

The concept of MMA is that you bring just about any form of combat into the ring to win a fight. You are allowed to kick, punch, grapple, throw, tackle. The fight begins standing and ends on the ground, with points being granted based on hits and, often, a submission.
I am not talking about the MMA you might see on TV which resembles gratuitous violence more than the healthy sport I practiced on saturday mornings with my Tae Kwon Do group. You hit and get hit but, as long as you play it as a sport, injury happens next to never and pain is momentary. If we see past the negative image commonly shared on combat sports, we must agree that it promotes reflexes and quick movements far more that soccer does (it doesn't take long for you to learn that dodging is more comfortable than getting punched in the jaw), requires at least as much foot coordination (you keep shifting your weight from one foot to another), let alone physical conditioning. While MMA and other martial arts might not have the same popularity than soccer, one could argue that it might be a matter of circumstances, as it surely is more reassuring for a parent to give a child a ball than boxing gloves. However least popular, MMA, as well as other forms of combat sports, existed far before soccer. And thus it glows with historical prestige, which soccer does not have.

The olympic games contain almost every sport but there is only one big event other than the olympics called the "World Cup" which is still every 4 years but only involves soccer and is bigger than the olympics. That is prove its the most popular sport. And we all know, most popular usually means its the best.

It would be the most popular sport because all you need to participate in football, soccer, and other sports is a ball. Tell me why even the richest countries have soccer as #1. England, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Italy, France, ect.. Then there are many third world countries that like it, not because all you need is a ball, but because they all like it. There at third world countries that are not compared to others like Argentina, Brazil and Mexico can't be compared to Iran and Iraq in the same way. In those countries you'll still find playgrounds with a goal, and a hoop on top but almost nobody likes other sports. And hockey is too aggressive and requires lots of maintenance because your on ice. Mostly popular in Russia and Canada.

Hockey takes more of each. but Hockey is cost prohibitive to most....even in developed nations.

"Most popular in the world" is a definite nonsensical argument.

It's ONLY 'most popular in the world' because in most countries it's the ONLY sport. Zimbabwe doesn't have much access to NFL football or NBA basketball nor do they have the resources to actually play those sports. People only relate to what is available in their own area. If access was equal and all countries were equal economically would soccer STILL be 'the most popular sport in the world'. Of course not.
