The effects of social media and networking has a negative effect on the current generation of teenagers. It has mainly become an issue with communication due to the 'face free' interaction that social media sites such as twitter, facebook, and snapchat provide. It's altered the way that teenagers deal with conflicts; instead of confronting face to face they take to fighting via the internet allowing people to say things that they normally wouldn't say with no remorse.
Social media may have changed the way teenagers communicate, but that is just part of what comes with this new generation of technology. Social media has altered the lives of teenagers around the world, and it is up to each individual to be responsible for how it affects their life, whether it is in a negative or positive way.
Though teenagers can be responsible for how they use social media it's still something that is bigger than the common responsibility for an every day teenager. If the social media didn't exist or at least have limitations it would eliminate a substantial amount a bullying that goes on in the world and the lack of communication that teens exhibit.
Social media communication has its ups and downs. However, with social media, teenagers can communicate with people from across the world in an instant. For example, you can find the perfect roommate for college by just scrolling through Facebook. Social media allows teenagers to communicate with people they never would have imagined communicating with.
Though social media allows for you to keep in touch with people from far away it also gives people access to your personal information on a website, allowing for hackers to easily steal social security numbers which can lead to identity theft. It can also lead to people discovering you that you do not wish to know.
Identity can be stolen in multiple ways. You just need to be smart about what information you keep to yourself and what information you share. I think that as long as people are careful and responsible, social media communication can be fun and useful.
Social networking can also get in the way of school, thought this doesn't happen to everyone it can distract children from important studies. Because of the obssession that social networking has become its become complusive reflex to refresh you're twitter feed or your instagram. Though it is clearly the teenagers responisbilty its hard to take the initiative to focus.
Yes, that may be true, but this debate is focusing on social media's effects on communication. Although social media may cause issues such as what you previously said, I don't feel that it was that much of an influence on communication. I feel that if the person is a teenager and is using social media to communicate, they should be mature enough to know how to communicate in the real world.
In conclusion, the use of social networking has decreased teens ability to successfully communicate due to the fact that they are so used to non face to face communication, though this might be a new era of communication and could potentially evolve into something positive.
