these 30 seconds are a free time to do what you want with... its not like there making you pray, you dont have to pray to a specific god or at all for that matter its just a time given to those if they want it

Con

I disagree. If a student can't find 30 seconds in their busy day to pray/meditate or whatever, then they have a problem. It's totally unnecessary, and probably wouldn't help spirituality or prayer habits for anyone, especially since it is such an abstract exercise.

If a student really feels the need to pray/meditate then they have time at lunch. Or God forbid they wait until they get home...

30 seconds = royal waste of time. Especially with 100 characters while characterizing other characters.

FiredUpRebublican,

Send me a challenge and I'd be happy to debate you. However, I'm not sure what you want to debate, but surprise me!

to Anonymous, taking 30 seconds of silence out of public school doesn't limit any religious people's rights at all. Like FunkeeMonk said you can do it on your own time. I don't know of any public school that has ever punished a kid for praying in school. I have no idea what constitutional rights your referring to, that do not apply to Christians It's just a pointless policy, like the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance in school.

We have a minute of silence at my school in Virginia. Its pointless and dumb.

Yeah, I love how constitutional rights apply to everyone except Christians. I never cared how much trouble it got me into, I prayed in school when I felt led to do so, and I do it in public. If I offend someone else too bad; people offend me all the time, and I am not going to take it into a courtroom just to make myself feel important. Removing that 30 seconds of silence from schools is absolute evidence of the rediculousness and hypocrisy inheritant in our nations judicial and educational systems.

Man, this debate went cold form the start. I'd liek to debate this with you FunkeeMonk, it isn't all about Prayer.

If kids are devoted to their religion then they don't need school to help them, and if they're not devoted to their religion then it's pointless to claim a faith.

How does it show awareness. No one knows what the other is thinking about during those thirty seconds. How are people unified by watching each other sit quietly? It would be meaningless to most students.

I think that the thirty seconds just brings awareness to the students and shows unity. There is power in numbers.
