the constitution is outdated. this is true because anything that is over 200 years old must be outdated. expecially if it is the document use by a nation to govern and judge. we cannot continue to base our legal system on an outdated piece of parchment that was written by a bunch of old, sexist, slave-owning men in wigs. (if livinginsanity accepts this debate i will provide more evidence and will back up my current arguments. so... please accept. i haven't debated in a long time and need to manifest my anger in a productive way;)

Well, i agree with this statement, so i'm not sure what to say. I have to get back in the debating sphere... *DEEP BREATH* Ok, lets go. The Constitution is the basis for our country. That fact is undeniable. If we are to rewrite it, we would have to create a new country. The thing is, it can be rewritten. The "sexist slave-owning men in wigs" knew that times change, so they created a way for their document to be altered. It was through the alterations that women and black people were given the right to vote. Our constitution is the oldest still being used. Nobody said we had to use it word for word. Those "sexist slave-owning men in wigs" must have gotten something right if that little piece of parchment is still being used by a top world power. I know people will say that they hate America and its horrible and the government is terrible and oppresive, but if thats the case, why do we have an immigration problem? Why do so many people want to come here? Why has our country remained a world power for over 100 years? Because our country really is amazing, thats why. So bash the constitution all u want, i like our country.

Since my opponent didn't ever respond, I'll just conclude: America is not as bad as my opponent says it is. Our constitution is old yes, but since when are old things bad, necessarily? Things can get updated, and our constitution has been updated (amendments) but the original framework still stands. Our constitution is the basis of our country, and if we get rid of it, we get rid of america. Finally, if we can't support and uphold our constitution, what part of america is left to uphold? We can't always trust our government, we can't always trust our bosses, our management... What we can trust is the original idea of america, which is the constitution. This round was forfeited, but vote for me anyway.

What's the difference? Loose interpretation has left us with a country the founding fathers could not imagine in their wildest dreams. The were in favor of minimal government and instituted no federal income tax. The constitution need no be rewritten. It can be adulterated to serve the whims and wishes of any group in power, regardless of what its authors' intented.

You must also not read English because I CLEARLY stated it should not be rewritten...

Sadolite, you know, you make it hard not to be condescending... do you not understand that an amendment is a revision??? Do you need an English lesson??? Do you know anything about Constitutional law??? Did you know that within the first 20+ years of the Constitution it had been Amended (read- REVISED) 12 times???

Mangani, Name one revision to the constitution that you think would make this country better other than repealing an existing amendment. What else is there. What is it that this oppressive country is prohibiting you from doing.

By the way- an "amendment" is a "revision"...

Sadolite you do a disservice to supporters of the Constitution. It is counterintuitive to support the Constitution, yet be opposed to change. Conservatism is un-American when compared to the thoughts, writings, philosophies, and legal views of the "forefathers"- John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. None were "conservative", all were revolutionary progressives.

The Constitution of the US is an outstanding document subject to the interpretation of corrupted men and women- both liberal and conservative. Nearly every point the two prominent political parties now stand for is unconstitutional. If it were rewritten by todays standards, this country would instantly fall in majesty, economical status, and respect...

Mani, Your argument sounds just like Barrack Obama's quote of the day: "America is the greatest nation on earth now join with me so we can change it."
