Researchers have found (and this part is factual) that a virus from the same family as rabies effectively kills an aggresive form of brain cancer. What if it all goes wrong and the virus evolves.

Rabies are contracted through saliva, usually from a bite
The Latin meaning for rabies is " madness, rage, fury"

Could there ever be a virus that affects motor skills, brings on a desire for intense feeding and causes loss of memory?
It's not a matter of "if" it's a matter of "when"
Not saying they'll be as dumb and as "dead" as they are in movies either

Definition:

Virus- An ultra microscopic, metabolically inert infectious agent that replicates only within the cells of living hosts. Composed of an RNA or DNA core, a protein coat, and in more complex types, a surrounding envelope.

Zombie- The body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less by a supernatural force or some evil purpose.

Opening:

Viruses are simple machines. they lie in our environment and wait for the right host to come about an take the virus into their respiratory lining. stomach lining, breaks in the skin etc.... When inside of the respective host a virus takes protein manufactured by the ribosomes of a cell to make new viruses, which then burst out of the cell and proceed to infect additional cells. The viruses sole purpose is to reproduce within the cell and move along. By this fact, a virus is not capable of 'possessing' a person's motor skills as it has neither the means, nor the abilities to. This can be seen as a means of reproduction, however viruses cannot actively control humans motor skills because they are not alive and cannot process the necessary skills to do so.

All specific species of viruses evolved to infect a single animal, they have done so in a way that viruses can neither kill off their selected host (and therefore themselves) and so their selected host does not have a strong enough immune system to kill off the virus. This is called a Natural Host and every virus has one, if a virus were to jump species and infect a human, it could not survive for an extended period of time (as in the case of a zombie) without dying.

Finally, the symptoms necessary to create a zombie are not possible. Symptoms of illnesses actually come from responses by the human body. A fever is not caused by a virus, it is caused by the hypothalamus (which regulates body temperature) rising the host's internal temperature in order to kill off the virus with heat. A cough is the bodies way of ridding the throat from excess mucous and tissue (generated by the immune cells) . To create zombie-like symptoms, a virus must be able to attack the perfect regions of the body and the perfect proteins to make the body react in a way that may appear zombie-like.

Rebuttal

In your introduction you made the following statements-
1) A virus from the same family as rabies effectively kills an aggressive form of brain cancer.
2)Could there ever be a virus that affects motor skills, brings on an intense desire for feeding and causes loss of memory
3)It's not a matter of 'if' it's a matter of 'when'

To address point '1' I would very much like to see where you happened to stumble upon that fact. In order to have a truly valid argument all those who view this debate must be able to see the sources upon which you base your argument upon. Unless in your conclusion you are able to cite all of the sources used in your introduction in order to validate your argument.

In point '2' you neglect the blood brain barrier. in order for the virus to affect motor skills, desire, and loss of memory it must make it through the blood brain barrier (BBB). Humans have evolved to keep most all substances out of the brain. The only things that can make it through the BBB are nutrients and oxygen carried by blood. In order for this proposed 'z' virus to carry out any single symptom that you listed a virus must get through the BBB which can only be opened when subjected under high amounts of radiation.

Point '3' states that a zombie outbreak is inevitable and yet you fail to explain on a molecular level how such a thing could happen. To convince people who are voting on this debate that your side is correct, you must provide beyond a reasonable doubt that a zombie outbreak from a virus can happen.

Also, this "joy" that you're talking about was only the joy of those who "dwell in the dust" (the dead) and the living were struck with terror.

Isaiah 26:19-20 states:
(19) But your dead will live, Lord;
their bodies will rise"
let those who dwell in the dust
wake up and shout for joy"
your dew is like the dew of the morning;
the earth will give birth to her dead.
(20) Go, my people, enter your rooms
and shut the doors behind you;
hide yourselves for a little while
until his wrath has passed by.

Why don't you chew on that before you call someone stupid? Jeez, you're so ignorant.

(Hey lightningstar)
If we are going to bring religion into this, it should be noted:
-Now this will be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouth. On that day a large-scale panic from the LORD will spread among them. One person will grab the hand of another, and one will attack the other (Zechariah 14:12)
-But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. (Revelation 11:11)

I would also like to point out that the bible holds many different scenes with zombies and zombie plagues.

Why don't we just get on with the debate...

I understand that this is not a religious topic, but you made an incorrect statement. Any logical person with even a grain of intelligence can understand that. Revelation states there will be a new heaven and a new earth were no one dies and there is only joy. I'm fairly certain a zombie couldn't feel joy. I never claimed to be God maybe your too stupid to comprehend what I'm saying. No one as smart as Paul would put any faith( the substance of things hoped for) in something harmful.

Your not god so if you told me that,I'd tell you to go to hell and that's just Paul "hoping". This is not based on religion anyway, it's about whether or not people think a virus like this could ever exist and I think it one day will.

Yes it does say it is good Paul says his hope is in the resurrection of the dead do you put your hope in something bad? If I told you you would be brutally murdered tomorrow would you place your hope in that or me?
Posted by reignbow 3 years ago
reignbow
Well FYI he promises a resurrection of the dead and doesn't say if it's good or bad. We all hope it's in a good way, but he also promises that there will be an apocalypse so not everything in the bible is "good" and "great"

FYI when as you out it God said the dead would rise again it's not talking about zombies it's a literal resurrection. The dead shall "live", "live" being the key word.

In opposition to the cynical, this seems like a legitimate possibility.
