Ticket scalping should not be illegal because the person who is reselling the ticket has afforded the ticket with their own money so it is legally theirs to do whatever they want to do with it. Why should there be a limit to your freedom of what you want to do with your own item?

Thank you for posting this debate. My first argument will be brief.

I will list the reasons why ticket scalping should be illegal.

1. Bulk.

Lots of people will buy the tickets in bulk, then will sell them for a much higher price.
This cause major losses for the company selling the tickets.

2. Cheating the system.
Most of the ticket scalping enterprises are run by people who scalp tickets for a living
They make a lot of cash from their ticket scalping businesses, and often these practices are illegal on other levels. For instance, the largest ticket scalping busts have involved people who have friends at the box office.

3. Cheat the people.
What lots of scalpers like to do is produce fake tickets. If scalping is made illegal, then that mans more people getting scammed.

My opponent says,

"Why should there be a limit to your freedom of what you want to do with your own item?"

One could say the same thing about meth. There has to be point where we must stop.

I look forward to my opponents next argument.

Hi

Thank you for accepting my debate

Here are some refutations to Pro's arguement

I did not quite understand what you meant "causing major losses for the companies selling the tickets if lots of people buy the tickets in bulks." Most ticket scalpers resell tickets at the day right before the concert when all the tickets that the companies are selling are sold out which does not affect/harm the companies at all.

Also, according to pro's evidence most scalping businesses are terminated before they can form. Although it is illegal for the scalpers to form a whole business but it isn't illegal to sell them individually.

And for pro's third point, he/she gave me a point because I am supporting the act of scalping tickets to stay legal so according to my opponent and like he said on his third arguement, "if scalping is made illegal, then that means* more people are getting scammed."

Meth is irrelevant to this topic because meth is a drug and can hurt other people. However, ticket reselling will actually benefit the seller and the buyer.

Thank you for posting your next argument.

1. "Most ticket scalpers resell tickets at the day right before the concert when all the tickets that the companies are selling are sold out which does not affect/harm the companies at all."

The reason it harms the companies is they do not get as much money as they would get selling at individual prices.
Usually, companies sell tickets at a discounted price.

Scalpers usually buy there tickets in bulk.

2.
Business: An occupation, profession, or trade.
You say that most scalping businesses are terminated before they can form. That is wrong, the minute someone sells a ticket is the minute the business starts. This also causes lots of damage to the company.

3. It is illegal in some places, that is what I am using. Point three extended

The reason I used the subject meth was to prove a point.

'why should there be a limit to your freedom of what you want to do with your own item'

I could also make meth and sell it, but just because its mine to sell does not man it should be legalized.

I will use another example, if a doctor give you prescription drugs, would it be okay to sell it? since it is legally yours?
No.

So far you have only made attacks on my argument but have not said a valid point on why it should be legal.

I look forward to your next argument.

Ticket companies do not sell tickets at a discounted price if you buy them in bundles. You have to buy the amount of tickets they want at full price. Although most people buy the tickets in bulk, they still have to pay full price for them without any discounts.

I thought that by businesses, you meant a whole company like "big time" ticket scalping. Those I meant were terminated. People who sell the tickets individually usually have certain limitations based on the state's laws.

To object your third argument, there is a reason meth and other drugs (prescription or not) are illegal to sell or distribute. It is because it can harm other innocent people without the buyer knowing it.

My opinion on why I think it should be legal is because the ticket is yours that you can sell lie selling a toy or some other item. There is a reason on why selling drugs are illegal. It is because it goes past the limit and is far too extreme and like I stated in the paragraph right before, it causes death and serious injury to not only the user of the drug but other innocent people as well. That is the argument that we have been debating about the whole time.

Lastly, I would like to inform the audience that my opponent is using the word man instead of mean in his arguments. Please clarify if you are using that word on purpose

Thank you for debating.

Thank you for posting your last argument.

My opponent has ignored my second argument, named "cheating the system". In a debate, you can not just pick and choice what you want to responded to.

My Opponent has also stated that tickets don't come at a cheaper price if you buy them in bulk. It is a well known fact that that is not true. There are deals like buy 100 get 10 free. Or buy 500 get ten percent off. You can not just say that there is no discount.

Once again, when I used the example of meth because in your argument you said that if something is yours then it is legally yours to sell. I proved that wrong by showing that just because you have meth, it is not legally yours to sell.
That example proves your argument wrong.

Lastly, I would like to thank my opponent for catching my spelling mistake. I meant to say means, not mans.

I would also like to point out yours, you said
My opinion on why I think it should be legal is because the ticket is yours that you can sell LIE selling a toy or some other item.

I think you meant to say like.

I thank my opponent for this debate,

And I thank the audience for reading.

I was using the meth as an example, So do you believe citizens should be able to make and sell nukes to whoever they wish?

Personally, I think that meth should be allowed to be sold, but I have a better argument against ticket scalping.

The corporation hosting the event could add a little contract to the bottom of the ticket saying, "By purchasing this ticket, I agree not to sell this ticket later at a higher price." Thus, a violation of this rule would be a violation of contract, which is unacceptable, even in a society with free trade.

So you agree we should be able to sell meth?

Absolutely not. Any violation of free trade is an ABOMINATION to freedom.
