I dont agree with Craig Winn on many of his points, and we are actually in agreement that he is wrong about Bush and iraq- I just think his point about WOT vs War vs Islam is DEAD ON.

Read the TERRORISM TIMELINE- it is incredible and goes over all that stuff in the 70s with Arafat and the PLO and the hijackings and Abu Nidal and the whole History of Terrorism- it is like 1000 pages !

I forgot to add after the 7 years later part that... well yea its been almost 7 years and so far we proved almost every bit of that "open letter" wrong. The Iraqi people enjoyed voting, Al Qaeda related crime has fallen significantly, and some even say we completely driven them out from Iraq...

The "open letter" from your link was posted on January 1st 2001 (it says 0001 but yea I think he meant 2001). Its December 12th, 2007... almost 7 years later. The guy claims its a pointless war on a tactic (mark another misinformed person), that a democracy in Iraq won't work, that we're declaring war to impose our values, and that we should just lie down and take it from a minority radical population instead of fighting. He then calls George W. Bush a hypocrite, arrogant, and ignorant and then later calls himself a conservative Christain, responsible for Bush's 'empowerment'. Something here just doesn't add up.

the war on terror is a MEANINGLESS term

It is a war with ISLAM

And it is a hot war that will go one for centuries

nebosleeper, if you want to try and take the literal meaning of the war on terror I'll break it down for you. I'll give you a little history lesson, if you will. First off, we pretty much took the whole definition of terrorism to refer to the Al Qaeda. Remember September 11th, 2001? The attacks on the World Trade Center? Well, shortly thereafter Mr. Bin Laden took credit for it. So we went in looking for him, and, in the process, fell upon some intel showing that Mr. Saddam was harbouring members of the Al Qaeda, and even more intel showing that he was making Weapons of Mass Destruction. Realizing that it is kinda difficult to declare war on an ideology (Al Qaeda), we went in on the basis that they had WMDs. Guess what, we found them (the WMDs). Then we took out a genocidal dictator, and during our visit there we took out a bunch of members of the Al Qaeda as well. So then we helped them put up a new government, to protect its citizens and in turn help us with the terrorist infestation. (also as a side-benefit, to protect our oil-interests, since liberals won't let us drill our own land -- entirely different story) So now we pretty much have Iraq stabilized, some young guy impersonating Bin Laden (cause he's either sick or dead), and now we're looking to clean up the Al Qaeda in Iran. But I think Ahmadinejad has too many friends that would be on the recieving end, so he isn't happy.

In summary, its ... politically incorrect ... to declare war on an ideology or a radical form of religion... so we decided to declare war on terrorism (which probably still conflicts with the ideology part so thats probably why we shortened it to 'terror')

By the way 0311 is infantry if you don't know and i was in Iraq for 9 months.

What MOS do you work in there nebosleeper? Admin. Because surely you haven't been to Iraq to see the progress we have made. I myself was in the Marine Corps as an 0311 and know first hand why we are over there. Cmon man
