it help's pepole with sleeping problums. It can help with cancer.Or other probloms you might have.
Emilrose

Con

Accepted.

Firstly, Pro claims that: "it help's pepole with sleeping problums. It can help with cancer.Or other probloms you might have."

Without any evidence in support, Pro is technically arguing a fallacy. I'd note that if people do have "sleeping problems" they can seek advice from a doctor and take prescribed medication to treat it; or possibly try other relaxation methods to enable them to sleep properly. The exact same applies to cancer, in which people can be treated with actual medication. However, even if a person with cancer did use marijuana as a form of treatment, this in no way means that it is *not* harmful or without its negative effects, as literally every drug can classify as harmful.

In countries such as the U.K weed is classified as a "Class B" drug [1.], which puts in the same league as ketamin/amphetamines and has a maximum 5 year jail term for possession and a potential 14 years in jail for the production and supply it of it.

=Harms=

Research has shown that there are considerable harms to smoking weed, which is where Pros resolution is easily negated. These harms include severe impact on memory, critical skills and overall ability to learn [2.] As well as smokers having significantly higher rates of car accidents, injuries and being absent from work. Those who smoke weed can experience *many* negative side effects, which include paranoia, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, impaired coordination, etc. Alluding further to mental functioning, the THC in cannabis essentially disrupts the brain cells affecting the memory and leading to impaired cognitive abilities. Regular marijuana smokers also have a higher prevalence in conditions such as bronchitis. Even more note-worthy is the fact that marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke [3.] With research study showing that one cannabis joint could cause as much damage to the lungs as up to five cigarettes.

Rather than actually helping people with psychological problems [which is what Pro claims] cannabis can severely impair the functioning of the mind and those who smoke it are at far greater risk at developing mental health issues [4.]

Pros resolution is thus negated.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro forfeited the majority of the debate, forfeiting all rounds except R1, while Con forfeited only two rounds. While both were misconducted in this, Pro had the full forfeit, and forfeiture of the entirety of debates is generally considered unacceptable conduct in all debate settings. Pro's S&G was abysmal, spelling "people" as "pepole", and misspelling "problems" twice, once as "problums" and once as "probloms". Pro also displays a lack of punctuation, with "it" being un-capitalized in the beginning of the sentence, and there is an unnecessary modification to "helps", changing it to possessive incoherently rather than the intended plural. Pro's sole argument, as Con noted, was a bare assertion and irrelevant to the resolution, which was weed being HARMFUL, not its having plausible benefits. Con showed that the drug was harmful by citing extensive citations to support the same. Thus, args, conduct and S&G to Con. As always, happy to clarify this RFD.
