Resolved: That the Bostrom Simulation argument is likely correct.

The Bostrom Simulation Argument means the argument made by Nick Bostrom in the following paper: http://www.simulation-argument.com/simulation.html Likely means more likely than not, i.e. having a probability of more than 50%. Correct: True; in this context, accurately reflecting reality. To recap, Nick Bostrom argues: "At least one of the following propositions is true: (1) the human species is very likely to go extinct before reaching a "posthuman" stage; (2) any posthuman civiliza...

The BNP (as constituted) should NOT be allowed to exist as a political party.

Volkov

Hello and welcome to readers and to my esteemed opponent Volkov. It is a pleasure to be debating someone with such an excellent grasp of international politics and I hope that his depth of knowledge does not show me up too much in this debate! We agreed to this debate in the comments section of a debate instigated by my opponent (sadly sabotaged by a troll). http://www.debate.org/debates/The-BBC-Was-Wrong-To-Allow-Nick-Griffin-On-Question-Time/1/ This is a subject close to my heart as a Br...

Those Convicted of Serious Offences should be used for Medicine

Cerebral_Narcissist
feverish

It is my position that those convicted of the most serious offences, for example murder, have forfeited their human rights and deserve execution. Furthermore that the best method of execution is to utilise them for medical experimentation and/or organ donorship. My initial argument rests on these points, 1: Rights carry obligations. By committing such heinous offences the criminal should forfeit all rights. 2: Crimes such as murder, rape and terrorism are such terrible crimes that the crimi...

Marijuana should have similar legal restrictions to alcohol (or less legal restrictions).

feverish
Sniper213

Hello and thanks to whoever accepts this debate. In most (and perhaps all?) countries marijuana is subject to more severe legal restrictions and penalties than alcohol. Indeed in USA and UK alcohol is legal (though age restricted) and marijuana is a prohibited substance. I argue that this is wrong and that for a number of reasons marijuana should in fact have less legal restrictions than alcohol or at least equivalent legal status. To clarify, for the purposes of this debate: Mariju...

The God in question does indeed exsist

Cujosrevenge
feverish

The Bible teaches us that there are 2 types of people in this world, those who profess the truth of God's existence and those who suppress the truth of God's existence. The options of 'seeking' God, or not believing in God are unavailable. The Bible never attempts to prove the existence of God as it declares that the existence of God is so obvious that we are without excuse for not believing in Him. Romans 1 vs. 18 - 21 says: The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the g...

Affirmative action and racial profiling are both race based legislation...(topic continued)

TOPIC: Affirmative action and racial profiling are both race based legislation, therefore one must support either both or neither. It is reasonable to believe that one is a hypocrite for supporting affirmative action without supporting racial profiling, or vice versa. I will let my opponent conduct the opening rebuttals....
