I'm a high school violinist, and love playing the violin, but the pieces they give us at school just aren't enough. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for songs to play? So you know my approximate level, the songs I'm currently working on are Vivaldi's violin concerto in A-minor, Liberty Bell march, William Tell Overture, and Serenade for Strings. I'd really appreciate any responses I could get. Also good are sites where a lot of good, free violin sheet music is offered, as these seem to be few and far between :)

You want a REAL challenge?
Try Perseus by Soon Hee Newbold, Violin 1 on pages 17-20 on http://www.seoulforeign.org...
(including those pages). It's a grade level 5 piece, insanely hard to play along with (7th position!), and nearly impossible to sight-read decently, even for a super advanced orchestra.
If you still aren't convinced just listen to the song, listed below.
Unfortunately it's only good with the other parts, so here:

I love Soon Hee Newbold!! i'm actually currently playing her pieces "Fire Dance" and "Orion and the Scorpion". I love Perseus as well. Our chamber school orchestra actually attempted it a couple years ago, and the first violins loved it, but as I'm sure you can guess, the audience wasn't quite as thrilled as we were that we had a piece that involved 7th and 8th graders attempting to shift into 7th position :). Anyway, it would be lot of fun to try to play the piece again without scaring away the audience! Do you know where I can get the score for the first violins only? The score for the orchestra costs like $55.00. Thanks!!

Well, if you want a challenge but not too ridiculous, may I recommend the Franck Sonata for violin. Especially the 2nd movement.

If you want a challenge, try Paganini. They called him the devil on the violin. I put a video of some of his best music.
I'm becoming less defined as days go by, fading away, and well you might say, I'm losing focus, kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself.

Violin 1 is on pages 17-20. Cannot you print it out?
