8,000 characters gets restricting sometimes.

8,000 would be the default as usual, but the limit should be taken up to 15,000 characters. That means anyone who intends to use a lot of words can do so.

What would be the potential disadvantages of this system? Who knows. It's up for you to tell me :)

My opinion on that is people should learn to be more concise. 8000x2x5 is a lot of words to read and we already have a problem with lack of voting participation.

No! That would encourage people like CharlesB even more. -__- Besides, all 8,000 characters are rarely used up in a single forum post.

Though, I do get what you're saying OP. Especially when it comes to more in-depth topics, and a lot of characters are wasted quoting your opponent, 8000 characters can disappear very quickly. I just look at it as a challenge to get my ideas across more succinctly.

That's why you cut out whatever you're not responding to.

I agree. I would raise it to at least 12,000. But most people are not as accustomed to reading large amounts like me.

In response to all the "a lot of reading" posts:

1. The person chooses to do so. Everyone saying "that means less voting" should be aware that it's your choice whether or not to use such a large amount of characters.

2. If you're a voter, you don't have to vote on those.

It's worth a try at the very least. It doesn't affect you unless you choose to make it affect you.

Also, I'd like to point out that people rarely even use 8,000 characters in their posts. A lot of people just use the least they can.

"I like to challenge myself to be succinct"

That's fine. You aren't forced to use 14,000 or so characters.

I have yet to see a real disadvantage :)
