Since there is no one left in round 1, it seems appropriate to officially start round 2 now. There is some good news. Only 6 groups still need to get their debates started. Those groups are listed below.

RoyLatham vs. J.Kenyon http://www.debate.org...
Mongeese vs. Brian
Badger vs. Sieben
TheSkeptic vs. Mongoose
Freeman vs. Grape
PcP vs. UnitedAndy

If anyone from that list will not be in round 2, please indicate this as soon as you can. For the sake of time, no new partners will be assigned after 5 days from the time this is posted. If your partner doesn't show up (or decides to leave), you'll advance automatically if this happens 5 days after this is posted. If this happens before 5 days from the time this is posted, you'll get a new parter from the tournament if one becomes available.

There will be a two week time period to get your debate up and started (i.e., both people have actually posted something for round 1). If this will be a problem for anyone, let me know ahead of time. Your partner reserves the right to advance himself or herself automatically if you surpass the two week time period and hold up the tournament. This should be ample incentive to keep things going.

Please don't hold up your partner. Alright, let's do this.

J.Kenyon accepted the debate then forfeited the first round, killing the whole debate. I don't know what to do now.

I PM'd you the rough draft of my case to prove that I haven't been screwing around wasting time and explained the situation in the comments...

To keep this on everyone's minds: So Freeman how is the tournament going atm? Is everyone debating Rd. 2 yet or no?

We should have the rest of the debates starting fairly soon. http://www.debate.org...

There is only one group I'm not yet sure of.

J.Kenyon formally conceded.

Anybody want to debate the border fence?

You've already advanced to round three as far as I'm concerned.

From this post:

For the sake of time, no new partners will be assigned after 5 days from the time this is posted. If your partner doesn't show up (or decides to leave), you'll advance automatically if this happens 5 days after this is posted. If this happens before 5 days from the time this is posted, you'll get a new parter from the tournament if one becomes available.

At any rate, everyone else already has a partner. But there are some people already going into round three if you're interested. I think there's one person left. Two other people have already started a round three debate.

If someone becomes available and you want to *voluntarily* debate them for round 2, then that's fine.

Great. :)

Grape and I are going to debate the following topic:

"On balance, funds and effort are better spent on efforts to make life on Earth more sustainable than on space exploration."

He's pro and I'm con.

Two groups are still undeclared.

@Mongoose and Mongeese

A bit more urgency would be appreciated.

Merda (formally known as SocialPinko) will be helping me run things. He will also have coequal authority with me to help enforce rules and resolve disputes. Should I become unavailable at any time, you can direct questions to him.

There are still three groups left for round two. I am currently waiting on a challenge from Grape. Mongeese will be challenging Brian of a debate about the fair tax. And theskeptic and Mongoose will be debating abortion.

Would you like to help me?

I'm giving you permission to set up whatever time limits that you feel would be appropriate. Getting some people to start is like pulling teeth.

I probably couldn't defend democracy that well, but if you're still interested in bashing Utilitarianism, we might be able to work something out.
