A long while back, I used to be a regular on the Newgrounds forums, since I used to really be into Flash and Actionscript. In fact, back in the day, I even submitted some games that got passed judgement. (I hesitate to post these games here, since they're all either embarrassingly bad or just plain stupid.) Anyway, in refining my Actionscript skills, I found the flash forums to be particularly useful. In particular, there was this one thread called AS Main: http://www.newgrounds.com....

In this thread, people would submit actionscript tutorials, and if the editor thought they were good enough, he would add them to the updated list, and this updated list, of course, would be posted as the first post of every page.

I propose we start a similar thing here on DDO. I think we should have a HQ where people can post tutorials for and about DDO. So, let's do it!

A few guidelines first, though.

1) The way I see it, there are three categories for which we should write tutorials: tutorials about our beloved website DDO, tutorials about debate in general, and technical tutorials on topics such as logic. So, if you want to submit a tutorial, keep this in mind.

2) Try to keep tutorials opinion-neutral. A tutorial should provide information that is nearly universally accepted, so try to keep personal judgement out of it: a tutorial such as "how voting works on DDO" is good, while a tutorial on "how to interpret voting and what to consider when voting" may not be so good. Another example? A comprehensive and neutral tutorial on different argumentation styles is good, but a tutorial supporting a specific way to go about argumentation is bad.

3) Tutorials should link back to this thread using: http://www.debate.org...

4) For the sake of efficiency, I'll make editorial decisions for this thread. I promise to be fair and honest, although I should note that I'll be pretty serious about not including opinionated tutorials.

5) If you read a tutorial, and you think you can significantly improve upon it, you're allowed to try write a better one and try to "replace" it. However, like I said, I'll make the tough calls, and your tutorial must be SUBSTANTIALLY better for a replacement to take place. The lean for ties and close calls will go toward the original tutorial.

So, there you have it! If you want, write your own tutorial and submit it here!

Try to stop posting in the thread at the end of every page so that I can create an updated list at the start of every new page.

What this thread should mainly be is to submit new tutorials. If you want to discuss this thread and the idea behind in general, try talking about it in the discussion thread I've created and which can be seen here: http://www.debate.org...

Alright, let the project start!

If people can fall blindly in love with Nyan Cat, then I don't think anything is "too stupid" for the masses.

what about tutorials regarding cooking or investing?
Me -Phil left the site in my charge. I have a recorded phone conversation to prove it.
kohai -If you're the owner, then do something useful like ip block him and get us away from juggle and on a dofferent host!
Me -haha you apparently don't know my history
Kohai - Maybe not, but that doesn't matter! You shoukd still listen to your community and quit being a tyrrant!
Me - i was being completely sarcastic
Kohai - then u misrepresented yourself by impersonating the owner—a violation of the tos

Investing, maybe. In a miscellaneous section perhaps?

But the vast focus should be tutorials on debate and DDO-related issues.

I think it's a great idea as long as they are somewhat entertaining in nature. If they are too long and too dry I think they will be largely ignored. Koopin is working on this as well with some videos, actually he's only completed one, but it's a basics video, and it will definitely keep the attention of newer users. There could be some additional ones to address specific areas of DDO, and debate in general. We're also looking at making a FAQ section which will also hit on the basics.

Personally, I'd like to have a little grammar section too, but again it might get a bit dry.
