Yays and nays, things you disagree with and why, things to add, priority changes to be made.

Discuss.

Quick and easy projects requiring little coding in priority order:
1. On the front page "http://www.debate.org...; show only the popular debates instead of the most recent debates

2. On the page "http://www.debate.org...; the copyright at the bottom of the page is hidden.

3. Big Issue Update. The users in () agree with the change. This allows you to pick and choose the most popular. The Big Issue Updates are listed right after this.

4. Debates that have a forfeit in the second round should give no win to the winner but give a loss to the forfeiter.

5. Currently there is no way to see before accepting a debate if an RFD is mandatory or not. A box showing this on the debate while in the challenge period would be great.

Add:

PETA - To "Animal Rights"(Grape, Freeman)

Moderate projects requiring little coding in priority order:

1. ELO Rating System to replace current system on the leaderboard

2. A vote count which would appear next to a users post count in the forums which would recognize users who vote on others debates.

3. Ability to report an RFD

4. Anti-Spam Measures and lifting IP blocks

"I have a friend from Morocco who cannot register on this site due to IP bans. I was wondering if we can come up with a better solution for spam than IP blocks?

A. Code in anti-spam measures (Captchas for registrations as well as for first 10 posts)
B. Appoint two user mods with the ability to silence members (prevent posting and debates) that can ease the pain until they are reported and a decision made by the moderators. Has to be unanimous agreement between the user-mods to silence.
C. Lift all IP blocks for a month and reassess situation.

5. Create a reporting page where all members can review who was banned and the reasons for their banning. Allowing complete transparency within the administration.

6. Create a page/section within user profiles to see their voting history on along with their RFD.

7. A counter on a members profile so users can see how many forfeits someone has.

8. Removal of the Not All Caps Filter

9. An optional curse filter that allows a user to have curse words censored or not turned on by default and only uncensored if a user is logged in (prevents search engines from seeing curse words)

10. Forum and PM Changes
-Subforums for mafia games to better organize DP threads.
-Ability for the creator of a PM to add/remove players from it at any time.
-Ability to sort PM's by user (alphabetical)
-Ability to sort PM's by subject (alphabetical)
-Ability for the creator of a forum thread within the games forum to prevent specific players from posting in it at any time and allow them to post in it again at any time.
-Ability for the creator of a forum thread within the games forum to lock the thread at any time.
- Ability for the creator of the subforum within the games forum to sticky and unsticky a thread within that subforum at any time.

11. Under Political Choices, the choices will be scaled back to 5 options for Political. There will be a separate option for economic choices. Next to each there will be an additional text box that members can fill to further explain their ideology.

12. Permanent page to list priorities in terms of updates, when they are scheduled, etc.

Difficult Coding Projects that would take time

1. Roy's Tournament Addition - Roy is a professor who teaches computers at MIT

http://www.debate.org...

The link explains implementation and mechanics

Things that are entirely optional but are interesting to consider

1. option to enforce a character minimum on debates that be turned on by default

2. second category for joke debates (different debate count, doesn't affect your percentile, and a separate win/loss count)

3. Acheivements
- Power Points or equivilant: When someone makes a good RFD, you can "+" their RFD, which adds to their points.
"Karate Belt": Make various achievements revolving around DDO activities and when you complete this 'achievement' you receive a little icon.
Time spent on forum: Self-explanatory.
Expanded "number of post": Add a graphical representation of the number of forum posts a user makes.
Increase the size of signatures.
Allow signatures to contain images, ie. Banners.

4. -Aesthetic Touch - Remove the "My" from the left-hand account menu so it would read:

Debates
Favorites
Friends

Photos
Edit Profile
View Profile
Settings

5. A link to the fans site and wiki on this site
Me -Phil left the site in my charge. I have a recorded phone conversation to prove it.
kohai -If you're the owner, then do something useful like ip block him and get us away from juggle and on a dofferent host!
Me -haha you apparently don't know my history
Kohai - Maybe not, but that doesn't matter! You shoukd still listen to your community and quit being a tyrrant!
Me - i was being completely sarcastic
Kohai - then u misrepresented yourself by impersonating the owner—a violation of the tos

Privatization of Space - too vague/irrelevant- I guess
Imperialism
Political Correctness
Nutcase Conspiracy Theories - inherently biased with the word nutcase and conspiracy- that was a joke proposed by someone (I think Roy)

Most of these are far too specific to warrant a position on a person's profile. Big Issues should at least reflect what people actually debate, and not any one persons special interests.

Internet Databasing - stored personal information at a guess.
Homeschooling
Goverment Monitoring - Patriot Act
Transhumanism - it's hardly a Pro/Con position more a will it, won't it one.
Designer Babies - I'd say too specific.

Technocracy - what does this mean - it's an offshoot of transhumanist socialism. Too specific, no one cares.

Privatization of Space - too vague/irrelevant - NASA would be a better topic.

Imperialism - kind of eh, should be better worded to reflect American foreign policy
Political Correctness
Nutcase Conspiracy Theories - there are far too many to be a Pro/Con issue.
Feminism - troll topic
Racism - troll topic

Age Of Consent - already in under romeo/juliet laws

Balanced budget amendment.

Teaching traditional family values in school - Religious artifacts in government institutions.
Moment of silence, or prayer if you wish, in school - as above
Hate crime legislation
Anchor babies
Media Censorship
Nuclear Armament - eh that's fairly irrelevant.

So essentially what every website in the world does

Technocracy - what does this mean- governmetn where researches, etc. control society
Same as government video cameras in public places I would think

Homeschooling
Government video cameras in public places
Designer Babies
Imperialism
Political Correctness
Racism
Balanced budget amendment.
Religion in public schools
Hate crime legislation
Anchor babies
Media Censorship
Nuclear Armament

Also nay on ELO, under the pretense this website is actually a democracy. :P

What's wrong with ELO rating system for debates?
Me -Phil left the site in my charge. I have a recorded phone conversation to prove it.
kohai -If you're the owner, then do something useful like ip block him and get us away from juggle and on a dofferent host!

I'd rather there were no rankings at all. There is a thread on this already buried somewhere. There's other reasons for disliking it, but the vote is all that's necessary.

You're ignoring the human incentive to attain victory and be the best. Without some sort of rating/ranking there would be less people willing to debate.

Remove Nuclear Armament - it's largely irrelevant. Religion is public schools is too narrow since the same issues apply to all government institutions such as court houses. And is there a better term for Anchor babies? Seems like it would be better served by something less focused and more encompassing immigration policy.

Nope.

Maybe. I highly doubt it though and I consider it largely irrelevant anyway.

We'll put it to a vote as well.
