What do you hope DDO will one day become?

For me, I hope it will become a public forum accepting of everyone, where a Renaissance variety of people can share their ideas, opinions, work, and art side by side. A precambrian soup of ideas, mixed with the social aspect of a public forum. Ddo has the ability to become this, if we put aside elitism.

Your thoughts?

elitism, sadly, is natural in many people. The only way to prevent elitism from taking root is by preventing elitists from joining and staying on the site. Such action defeats the purpose of allowing all views (as you would have to allow elitist views).

Apart from preventing elitists, the only other option (other than simply allowing elitism) is to try to convince them that elitism is actually a bad thing, which can be near impossible, especially on the internet where many people put on a thick skin layer of resistance to changing ideas.

I'd like to see DDO take a step towards encouraging the development and critical analysis of all ideas, but take a proactive step against elitism, trolls, and abusive members.

Basically, there are some member styles I think should be on DDO, and some member styles that should not be on DDO, and DDO should actively sort through those.

As long as there is noob sniping, DDO will never become a very popular site.

Plus, I don't think people like having their views proven wrong. At least in an informal online debate, people can be as stupid as they want, use ad homenium attacks, and declare victory.

First, let's have a solid definition of "newb sniping."

Do you think that there is a lot of newb sniping on DDO? And if so, how do you think it can be fixed/improved?

newb sniping is debating a noob in order to improve one's win ratio. Yes, there is a lot of newb sniping. It can be fixed via the Elo ranking system, since there will be less incentives to noob snipe.

Funny you all you mention that. We're actually working with Juggle now to see if one can be implemented.

That would be the most positive update since selective debate points.

Don't want to get anyone's hopes up, nothing is close to set in stone, but so far, they are at least entertaining the idea.

That someone other then me understands logic in the religion section.
DDO's marketing strategy has certainly paid off just not sure I agree with the target market: http://tinypic.com...

That someone other than him (Bozo) gets banned due to trolling, not following the spirit of DDO (in his offensive conduct, as demonstrated by his forums, posts, and thread), and so on.

I have said it again and I will say it again. How does trolling a troll lessen the trolling?

Yes, izbo is arrogant and probably wrong. That does not mean he should be banned. However, many great debaters have offensive conduct.

Just prove him wrong and if he persists after you've shown why he's wrong, ignore him.
