Me, Rockylightning, Andromeda_Z, and others all worked fairly hard to create the DDO Orientation thread that's now stickied. We figured that the next step would be to create a tournament exclusive to those have joined in the past three months, which has been in the working for about a week.

This tournament is invite only, to prevent people from joining who we know won't commit. We have PM's several newer members who, based off what we have seen, are very good debaters and should become contributive users.

Members

Thett3*

VocMusTcrMaloy

F-16_Fighting_Falcon

freedomsquared

lickdafoot

jm_notguilty

Phoenix_Reaper

Seraine

* Thett is currently on vacation til the 15th, but we can work around it. If anyone needs extra time to start for any reason, you can request to be matched with Thett.

Mestari has volunteered to be an alternate, and will replace a member in the tournament should they fail to meet loose deadlines.

Rules

1. 8 members

2. Double Elimination. You are out of the tournament once you lose two times.

3. Topic is whatever you and your opponent can agree to. Nothing is off limits, but do try to pick a topic that someone else isn't doing in the same round.

4. You have one week from the time of this post to start round 1. This gives everyone time to finish current debates and ensures you don't feel rushed.

5. You will have three days to pick an opponent and resolution yourself. After that we will arbitrarily match people up.

6. Winners of debate rounds will be determined by the standard overall vote.

7. Two week voting period for all debates.

8. Maximum three rounds of debating. I encourage acceptance rounds.

I'd like to thank everyone for signing up. I am very excited to see this unfold and confident in every debater here. I look forward to some high-quality rounds and wish everyone luck.

Remember, you have three days from now to find an opponent. Post round 1 by August 15.

I'd take Con stance.

I generally don't like a Christain vs. non-Christian debate; but I would debate Con on: Bible teachings are inconsistent. I would not take the debate if it were something frivolous like, "the Gospel accounts of the hour Jesus died disagree." I'm talking about doctrinal/philosophical disparities.

I like the header idea by VocMusTcrMaloy. Also, here are some interesting topics I want to throw out there.

1) The individual's right to privacy is more important than the public's right to know.

2) Police profiling in the United States should be abolished in favor of impartial police work.

3) The border fence should be done away with and Mexican citizens given the exact same rights as Canadian citizens while they are in the United States. I believe this would be a great North American response to the European Union.

4) The United States has a moral responsibility to ease up on immigration laws as it has done in the past.

5) Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing were unjustifiable/did more harm than good.

Would you be willing to do more of a specific theology debate? Such as Calvinism vs. Arminianism, Penal Substitution vs. [Insert other atonement theory], etc.?

Just to clear something up, the participants have already been decided. The 8 members listed are the only ones in this tournament. Perhaps that wasn't clear.

Sorry about that, I'll admit that I skimmed through the first post very briefly, admittedly not the best idea.

Unfortunately, I was signed up for a camp and will be back on the 17th of August. Am I going to debate thett? Could I post up a list of subjects I would be interested in debating for thett?

It's very unfortunate that this camp came up, but it can't be helped :(

Thett can apparently post small messages, so he should be able to respond. Yeah, it looks like you two will debate.

I see that we differ on drug legalization, and I think I'd like that. However, I'm also going to look at Minimum Wage before I finalize anything.

hmm, well. no response so here are some more debate topics i would be willing to do:

Intuition is used more than logic.

Human auras are real.

Writing fiction is more challenging than writing non-fiction.

Abstinence-only education does more harm than good.

(i'd take pro on all of these)

Oh. I guess that's fair.

Just out of curiosity, how does one define "new members"? Will I still be a new member next quarter?

I did members who joined in the last three months.
