Figured I should move this thread to the DDO forum.

Has there ever been a debate that anybody knows of on DDO where either Pro or Con after reading their opponents argument just concedes. Their argument was to good and caused the opponent to change his mind and outlook on the topic. I could see this being an ego thing, especially when it comes to religion, but it would be nice to see such brutal honesty. Just wondering if anybody has ever seen it.

Multiple times. I can't remember what the debate were or how I can find them though.

It probably isn't a coincidence that both are in contradiction's voting bloc.

Maybe, I don't keep track of who votes for who.

Someone should seriously check if Contradiction and Dimitry are multi-accounts. All Dimitry does is vote on Contradiction's debates. Seriously, the only reason Contradiction has a 100% win ratio is because of his voting block.

You are one of the top debaters at DDO. Why on earth did you concede to a newbie from Uganda?

Because Freedo is honest.

But a debate is not about who is right. It is about who can argue better. You were actually doing pretty well.

Even though debating is all about winning for some, I personally find it admirable if someone can admit to being wrong when they believe that they are.

There is no shame in changing your opinion. There is much shame in persisting in error when you no longer believe in your error.

Whether or not Freedo was right or wrong, he showed remarkable integrity by stating that he believed that he was wrong.

Although I agree with what you're saying, I don't really look at it that way. Debating for many is about having your arguments challenged and getting deep into the foundation of where your views come from. When one debater gives up it stops this process dead in its tracks, robbing their opponent and the voters from a much deeper understanding of the topic.

I've probably seen a dozen or so concessions on the site. At least once I voted for a newbie who conceded after being berated by some experienced debater who tried every trick in the book, but neglected to answer important contention.

One concession I remember is Grape conceding "Women and contact sports" http://www.debate.org... He was about 35-0 at the time, so I think he deserves credit for recognizing he had lost that debate.
