There was another thread like this a while ago. The consensus was that a member of the month nomination shouldn't happen again because it occurs too often. The annual awards are coming up in December so its probably best to wait for that instead.

Agreed. The Annual DDO Awards process will be starting on 12/1/2011, right before the DDO elections.

Absolutely not. Mikeee is the troll of the month. Thett3, can you defend your position in a debate?

I suggest Diagoras on a close nomination, followed by his mentor, Izbo10.

I assume you're refering to the Izbo's philosophy class. I googled "izbonics" and it only pulled up a thread that I'm not in.

However, it does not really matter, since you've already declined to show any evidence for your claim or to debate it.

Of course not. Trolls should be exposed at first so that all can seem them, that way, they can be ignored on a community level. I'm going to do a fun debate called "man-is-good is a troll" when I get to post copies of the trolling PMs that you've sent me as well as many of the trolling comments. It's going to be fun. Though, I highly doubt that any members are going to step up to defend you, which will only further show that the community recognizes you as a troll.

It's gonna be a lot of fun, I hope you read it.

Will you ever stop? Leave this guy alone, he's far from a troll. You are the troll, and I can say that because you do the same thing to me. Every time I'm arguing with someone, you show up to give him a majority. Every time someone is angry about one thing or another and insulting me as with darkkermit or sociopinko, you show up to support them, to form a gang. You follow my posts, you follow Izbo's posts, you follow Diagoras's posts and simply endlessly stand in perpetual opposition.

Look, you've even derailed kohai's thread. If anyone is a troll, once and for all, it is you. Knock it off.

MIG, can you please just stop? What is the point really? Let this thread expire. I think we all decided that were going to do this at the end of the year. Diagoras isn't harming you. Let's all just stop posting now. Deal?

How is once a month too often? What is wrong with recognizing productive members that we can only do it once a year? Most members don't even stay active that long.

Recognition is one of the most positive and effective methods of motivation there is. Being mentioned for an award like best debate, or member of the month is something that can add that motivation for a member to be productive in those areas, helping to improve the quality of this site. Nobody in July cares about being nominated member of the year in December, and members who joined in November have no chance, providing no added motivation at all. Monthly awards in addition to annual awards is by far a better option.

There was another thread like this a while ago. The consensus was that a member of the month nomination shouldn't happen again because it occurs too often. The annual awards are coming up in December so its probably best to wait for that instead.

The issue is that giving out awards too often devalues its worth. It was suggested in the previous MotM thread that we do it every 3 months, which is fine by me. But months go by faster than you think, and giving awards out all the time would seem to make them lose its meaning a bit.

lol! I'm 31, I can barely keep track of what month were in anymore. Anyway, yes giving awards out to often does de-value their worth but you can not de-value an annual award if you only give it out once per year. Baseball names it's player of the month every month. That does not de-value the MVP award. For DDO member awards, three months would probably be better but I definitely think we should do stuff like this more then once a year. Also, does this apply to debate of the month? No one posted on that thread since this conversation came up.

Right, giving out Member of the Month awards doesn't devalue the annual awards, but it does devalue the other MotM awards.

Lets use the baseball analogy you gave. Who won AL player of the month in June? How about NL player of the month in March? I don't think even hardcore baseball followers could answer these confidently. Thats because PotM is devalued due to it being given out so often.

But it seems like we agree that we can do awards more than once a year. Once every 3 or 4 months sounds good.

Agreed. I am wondering if we should start this quartlerly rather than annually? Not everyone stays all year round. It may help the number of members in the site
