I am absolutely god-awful at it. I'm still experimenting with ways of doing it. I'm used to making a chart, like:

1 AC | 1 NC | 2 AC | 2 NC | 1 NR | 1 AR | 2 NR | 2 AR

I've realized that it really doesn't work so well. Which is why I'm moving onto the strategy of using a legal pad with a different sheet for every category (1 for T, 1 for on-case, 1 for off), and then putting arguments in squares next to each other (in dif colors to signify AFF and NEG).

Anyway, how do you guys flow in Policy, for any Policy debaters?

For Novice a laptop is pretty unnecessary.

You absolutely should have a separate sheet for each stock issue (T, Offcase1, Offcase2, Adv1, Adv2, etc). I used 11x17 paper when I debated, 8.5x11 is just too small.

When I judged I used my laptop. It is sort of hard to get used to, but I can type a lot faster than I can write. Once you develop a computer shorthand I think it is worth it. It makes storing flows and referencing them for research a lot easier.

I would practice flowing on a laptop while you are still novice if you have that luxury. Otherwise use a shitton of 11x17's

write really small... also, flow so your paper is vertical, just skip to the next line every 10 letters or so (when you're writing their argument down).

but for sure treat the block as 1 speech, and keep every argument type on separate sheets of paper I.E. Inherency, each advantage, solvency, each topicality, each DA, each K, each CP, and each theory argument should be on a separate sheet. It helps with keeping the arguments in order and it gives you plenty of room to write the arguments down.
