Now considering the pass of sopa, will DDO close down based on copy right infringement?

SOPA has not passed yet. They are going to continue to debate about it after they return from the holiday break session.

Besides, how will the SOPA force DDO to close down?

The issue is that companies can basically shut down independent websites without justification. I doubt that DDO can actually be shutdow. Unless there is a secret Downloads Forum with access to pirated movies, DDO has nothing to worry about.

plagiarism in DDO can also lead to its shut down.

Of course most debaters here are above average, unless some troll or fool comes and plagiarizes there's no problem there.

It won't be able to close down websites anyway. Anything small won't be noticed, and anything big would be idiotic. Any attempts at closing websites down will lead to constant lawsuits, and international / non-American websites will not be able to be closed down. From my knowledge of SOPA, it is based off of a WW1 effect: government haven't realised what the internet is properly, just as military leaders didn't understand how the world of warfare changed, the gov't haven't realised the internet's power.

Doesn't mean I am against closing down pirated websites. Just that the whole thing will be near impossible to enforce (unless you want to waste a few hundred trillion dollars an hour on being virtual world police).

The act literally gives government the right to close down websites without there consent.

Nothing bad about the act.
It will not be used to close down sites such as Facebook or Youtube.
It will be used to close down sites that are violating copyright LAW. If you have no problem with putting people who BREAK THE LAW in jail, then why should we prosecute websites who BREAK THE LAW?

that's not what the act does...re-read the act and do research..it violates freedom of speech and it takes down the WEBSITE who has a user post something illegal..so if Izbo were to come here and post child p0rno DDO would get in trouble

It is the responsibility of the website to prevent things like this from happening.

It's bad to get the websites in trouble when it's not their fault. Do you really expect the owners to have to monitor every single post?

The powers of the members coupled with the powers of the owners is enough to prevent this and stop it.

I wish that was true. If it was then there definitely would be no need for SOPA

It's not. Last I checked, people weren't supposed to break laws. The only reason people oppose this is because then they won't be able to receive free music and videos.

I oppose it because as 16 said it is unconstitutional, will hurt the economy, and it is plain censorship that violates the first amendment.

that's what I meant to say, 1st amendment freedom of speech. The government is not allowed to censor, but people can. I can censor you, DDO censored izbo for good, and that's ok. But when the American government censors American citizens it violates our rights. It is unconstitutional.
