All too often, I feel constrained to keep the topic of my debates and their contents family-friendly. In this respect I do conform to the T&C's as I realise that kids read the debates, but it would be nice to be able to log on to an age-restricted area so that I can debate adult-orientated topics without having to worry about corrupting children.

Also, it would allow debaters to swear in a creative manner. Take the following example:

Dirty Sanchez grabbed the girl roughly from behind and growled ""****ing rats' ****, you're ****ing gorgeous, darling"

"Oh, Sanchez" she moaned "****** me backwards" so our Latin lover ripped off her pants and rammed his *****-encrusted **** right up her tight little ****"

You see, it leaves to much room for ambiguity.

If I'm not allowed in the adult-only area, then NOOOOOOOOO >(
: If you weren't new here, you'd know not to feed me such attention. This is like an orgasm in my brain right now. *hehe, my name is in a title, hehe* (http://www.debate.org...)

Just in case I get into some BS with FREEDO again about how he's NOT a narcissist.

"The law is there to destroy evil under the constitutional government."
So... what's there to destroy evil inside of and above the constitutional government?

Some of those can't possibly be the right number of asterisks...

Remember, this site was founded by fairly conservative Christians, I'm not entirely sure they'd be comfortable hosting that stuff :D

Well if they set up parameters to block out people under 18, just set parameters to block Conservative Christians. Then they themselves will be unable to enter and be none the wiser.

I'd want in, and if I wasn't allowed, I'd find a way in. Theres really no point in making a restricted area. Maybe an area with a warning that there is a looser TOS, but I dunno.

I think it would be upsetting if the creators of debate.org found that all the members are off THERE instead of actually debating.

Waste of time. There are thousands of other porn sites. I don't think one more is needed. Not to mention that changing your age on debate.org is the simplest thing in the world, as evidenced by the 102-year-old Kleptin. Who's to prevent a computer-literate 10-year-old from saying he's 32?

Nothing.

But it does make it so the site owners aren't liable for a minor viewing adult material.

After all, half of /b is populated by minors, and it's legal...

But no, someone who wants to BAN GAY MARRIAGE probably isn't all that comfortable with hosting teh pr0nz.

quite frankly, we don't need an adult only area. if you can't talk about it to people like me, then you shouldn't talk about it.

It's not so much not wanting or caring about talking about certain things around people your age, but rather the legality of it.

I personally have no problem with the PG-13 atmosphere of debate.org right now. What would an adults only section achieve besides absolving the founders of debate.org from any responsibility for the content of their own site?

An adults-only section would, I'm guessing, have limited use on a site where a good 70% of the membership is under 18.

This is not a social networking site (yet...). There are plenty them out there; debate.org doesn't need to become another MySpace to stay relevant. There's alot of porn, and there's a lot of social networking on the 'net; personally, I could do without a bit more of either.

What issues would be discussed in an X-rated debate anyway? Even possibly explicit topics such as gay issues can be discussed without being too bald-faced.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't think an adults-only section is a good thing for debate.org

I see where Brian is coming from, but I don't think it is necessary.

The moment an adult section is implemented is the moment I turn eighteen. And also, debates involving sexual topics are usually allowed anyway.

I think legally they'd have to ban you for admitting that if they opened such a section... unless they delete this topic without having read it :D

Oh, and never mind those earlier comments about asterisks... I can see how they'd work now, although in some of the relevant cases, some of the words don't have to be censored :D

As well as Debate.org I also contribute to the BBC debates, with 857 comments published so far (with about another 400 rejected by the moderators).

http://newsforums.bbc.co.uk...

Demographically, the contributors to BBC HYS site tend to be more mature in years and this is reflected in the nature of the debates. I actually prefer the format of debate.org though and I think that this site would attract a lot of new adult members if it weren't so dominated by teenagers (don't get me wrong, I really like kids – I used to go to school with them)!

I think that an over 18's area would allow adults to express their opinions freely and openly without having to worry about offending youngsters, or more likely, their parents!

This reminds me of a quote.

"Language is a poor enough means of communication. We've got to use all the words we've got. Besides, there are damn few words anybody understands."

They should at least make the rules on language a little more lax.

All Christians believe in intelligent design. Or did you mean do they believe in it to the exclusion of evolution? That I don't know, though Crystal's profile's emphasis on "God is the Creator of All" seems to imply it. Could be that's one of their dinner table debates, never know :D

Make a forum entitled "RationalMadman is a lie" make your first post "I have proof". The first to do this wins. The second to do this wins more. The third to do this loses. The fourth and all remaining people proceed to round 2. The first skips to round 3. The second skips to round 4. Good luck not being #3 ;)
