For point of clarification, does anybody know what "Tobacco rights" in the Big Issues section of this website is referring to? I'm assuming it's related to the rights of big tobacco companies vs. heavy restrictions imposed by the FDA - or - the rights of people like bar and restaurant owners to permit smoking on the premises of their establishments as opposed to adhering to federal or state smoking bans. Hmm. Either way, I'd like to debate this with someone who is CON to either interpretation. Any takers?

I don't know, but I am PRO both, so it doesn't matter to me.

I've interpretted it as:
-The right to manufacture, purchase, and consume tobacco products.

I've been interpreting it partly as the right to use tobacco anywhere, but I guess that I'm off a little. There should probably be a BIG Issues guide.

I'd prefer that the BIG issues be a list of proposals, rather than a list of words, so that meaning can't be left to interpretation.

this isn't as vague as abortion, because under the big issues you are either for killing the unborn or for not killing the unborn, you can't be pro-choice.

PRO choice is the right to abortion. So, no.

Though "Abortion Rights" would be much clearer.

Agreed with wjmelements.

Also, it should be clarified that "Abortion Rights" and even "Late Term Abortion" don't necessarily include the issue of Partial Birth Abortion.

Tobacco rights is extremely vague, but it's one of two things:

- The right to smoke and possess tobacco against the fact it is a slow killer.
- The outright banning of smoking in the workplace versus private property rights.

It could be both, but if you PRO one and CON the other.....it's like being PRO late term abortion and CON abortion.

Do you mean being PRO abortion and CON late-term?

Agree, though Partial Birth Abortion may fall under the Late Term Abortion category (because birth is the end of the "late term").

It's a grey area though.

You don't get it. How could someone be PRO late-term, but CON all?
It is odd when one's capacity for compassion is measured not in what he is willing to do by his own time, effort, and property, but what he will force others to do with their own property instead.

Well, you could be partial on Tobacco Rights, and not know whether to be PRO or CON, but Abortion at least has two separate categories to avoid such an issue.
