I think that the effect on this site on political views is enormous.

Right as I joined:

http://www.debate.org...

Now:

http://www.debate.org...

Not sure whether it's good or bad.

Anyone else have any stories about how their political views got changed by DDO?

I moved right and down, significantly following the 6 months after I joined. I've since taken that album down.

If you have been on DDO for a long period of time it is impossible to remain on the left of that diagram. Mirza and Volkov are the exceptions to that general rule.

I've always been critical of that quiz though, its perception of authoritarian requires one be religious and conservative; it's very hard to be above +5 on the y value if you answer honestly.

I shifted to the right believe it or not and more libertarian. I went from -5,0 to -2,-2. DDO changes your political views because of the largely rightist opinion. Just because the conservative/liberal divide is nearly even, doesn't mean the forums are equal in content.

With clear, evidentiary, and persuasive argumentation, anyone can change their views. I'm not sure my views have change much here on DDO (if anything they've been strengthened) but I have shifted over the years, undoubtedly.

went more left economically but more Libertarian socially because of DDO.

I think I went more liberal, in small amounts, and more libertarian or others, but still mostly conservative.

I haven't been on the left. The political compass showed my moral stance much more than my political views. I've been a conservative, one of the few even who persisted in my views. I've changed certain opinions, which is a healthy thing.

You're the kind of person who will refuse to change their views despite being shown time and again how wrong they are :)

Um, I believe I am more of a leftist now. When I first joined DDO, I was a huge Ayn Rand loving libertarian. I've always been socially liberal but my economic views have changed. I am more pro-labor than before, but that probably has more to do with my life and education outside of DDO. One thing that sticks out is that I am now an anarchist largely in part to DDO (I thought it was a ridiculous concept before). Being here has definitely strengthened and challenged various views for the better though.

I used to be liberal, keep trying though. Also what views are "wrong"

I was more of a generic conservative when I joined, although I did have some views more to the left. I went neocon for a bit, but turned much more libertarian. DDO did have something to do with the change.

I wonder where I'll go next, or if this will stay.

I have never really been interested in politics...The skirmishes over ideological differences or disagreements deter me.

We need another one of those DDO political compass threads. I've moved more socially libertarian since the last thread, no change in economics
