I hereby call DDO to reason with me. Every has probably noticed there are way to many people running for President. This makes the elections childish. I suggest that we hold primaries. The way it would work is by creating a thread where people would vote for four candidates that they would like to run. Once they are picked, everyone else can run on third party tickets. This will make it easier to have presidential debates and interviews. All in favor say I.

I agree to that, except the part where we allow 3rd party candidates.

I'd rather not have them, except people are still gonna vote for them.

The fact that they are 3rd party candidates prove that less than 5 people plan on voting for them. So, while those 5 voters maintain their votes, they're really just wasting their own voices.

I say we ignore the 3rd party candidates and only include those who won the primary in official election polling, news, and voting ballots.

So you suggest not counting the write in names?

What would the name of the parties be?

I say we name one "Inno", and the other "Men".

.:P

But seriously, what should they be based on, and what should they be named?

Will we have a Left and Right?

We used to have parties. The Party Party still holds my unending allegiance. Also the Rivalslib Party was pretty cool.

Nope, just ignoring it. For several reasons;
1. I don't see the point in a debate yet - this election frenzy seems fairly premature
2. You haven't actually pointed out any major disagreements with me so it would really just be us copying and pasting out platforms then sniping at each other
3. I've been doing more important things
4. I've been leaving it (not accepting or rejecting it) so that if I change my mind, I could accept it later.

This is how I'd like to handle the third party situation. Their names will not be on the ballot, but write ins are counted. It's kind of a tradition here.

I suggest not formally recognizing any of the 3rd party candidates. It really does not make a difference on the outcome of the election whether or not you count the write in names.

It is up to the Presidents. Anyone who wishes to be on the ballot can either PM me before I put up the primary thread. They pick their own cabinet members.

I fail to see why we need Left and Right parties. This seems like a ploy that will be used to bolster the popularity of certain conservative candidates. I agree that we should just permit the top four individuals to be the official candidates.

Let's not take ourselves too seriously now, we're all here to have fun. It seems like a handful of members here are taking it upon themselves to change how the elections work, mid-campaign. I think by running away from one extreme (too many candidates) to get people to take the elections more seriously, you're running head first into the opposite extreme (nitpicking who can and cannot run, and elitism.) We want people to have fun with this, because the primary purpose of this site is to have fun and debate. We want everyone to participate and to encourage those who are not active to be more active, we don't just want the same people dictating what everyone does.

If you want primaries so badly, then stick with the spirit of this whole election process. Propose primaries and then let people vote if we want primaries, just don't outright say, "we're having primaries and if you don't meet our standards, we won't put your name on the ballot." That's very undemocratic, and you might as well just pick the candidate and skip the elections if you keep doing things like this.

I don't see the purpose of this except that it limits the amount of people that can enter into the presidency freely.

People can freely create a party at will, but forcing someone to join a party and forcing primaries just seems silly.
