The elections will start on June 9th. They will end by June 14th. As orchestrated by Ore_Ele, the new president will be sworn in by June 15th. Also the requirements are 500 posts OR 5 debates. The reason is to prevent multi-accounts to boost votes. Thank you.

Hmm...this might be a problem. My birthday is on the 9th and I was planning on inviting everyone to a party at one of Philly's finest roller rinks. It usually only caters to 5-14 year olds, so make sure to bring your own skates!

Unless the party lasts 5 days you should still be able to vote..

Very funny. I am running elections until Ore_Ele returns so that's why I am announcing it.

Are we likely to have a runoff voting system (also called ranked voting)?

DK suggested it.

Spoiler effect still exists with 3 people. Ranked voting/instant runoff should be implemented.

Ranked voting/ runoff voting is critical for a more liberal democracy. It should be considered if there are 3 candidates or more.

1. Democracy is not inherently good, or good in general.

2. An election does not mean that there has to be more than the base minimum of democracy (voting). After all, even Stalin let people vote.

3. More on topic, what is a ranked voting/ runoff system?

Which are commonly accepted as being rigged, and unanimously accepted as undemocratic (one-party states where 99.x% of the people vote for you...yeah...)

Proportional Representation.

Exactly. One could not argue that the system had no element of democracy in it because people were allowed a vote. Hence the "base minimum" portion of democracy.

3. More on topic, what is a ranked voting/ runoff system?

Proportional Representation.

That's awful. There are no homogenous seats to which the elected can be assigned to. Each position is different and would be nearly impossible to balance. The only way that a system like that could work is if we had a President and a legislature to vote for proposed bills.

That sucks. It is preferred, especially considering one of the 3 candidates is an extremely poor choice in comparison to the other two.

No point in a run off system. People can change their vote at any time. Therefore if the candidate you prefer looks like they have no chance towards the end, you can switch to your second choice.
